  • The Big Ten still comes out with a huge number of highly skilled offensive and defensive linemen every year, they just don't have the superstar focused offenses that cause ESPN to drool over them.

Except for a few exceptions (last year's OSU team), you are correct. But high skilled OL and DL can create some great teams with simply above average players behind those lines (look at OSU this year).

I am interested in seeing if they go spread offenses, though one of the reason I love college football so much is the variety in offense and defense as opposed to the similarity of, say, the NFL. It'd be a shame if the Big 10 became like "everyone else".

Then again, I remember people laughing when Florida hired Urban Meyer, saying his system would never work in the SEC and then within a couple years, he wins the division. Spurrier's Fun n' Gun was always seen as a bit of an outsider, but now it seems to be the offense everyone wants to run in the SEC... though a lot of it being the result of Urban Meyer.

They do need to change styles a bit though, because of the weakness they have to the spread offense (it's not just Michigan here).

BTW, when does OSU start to lose wins and scholarships and bowl eligibility for the Maurice Clarett fiasco, or does that only apply to teams that lose the national championship game ...
when does clarett start to be credible in his accusations?

      • The Big XII is the amusing one. Who the Hell has Texas Tech played?
Easy one. The rest of the Big 12.

since Notre Dame plays 12 games. Pretty much impossible for them to go 2-9.

I didn't say for the season, just 2-9 at some point

3-9, then. I was hedging earlier with 3-8 anyhow, 3-9 is a nice compromise

Which is just as good as the Big 10. Thanks for making my point for me .

              • No, Imran. Big 12 is better than Big 10. SEC is also better. If you want competition, look to Pac 10. Maybe they can compete with ACC, I don't know.

No, you are completely incorrect. This is the conference who's champion lost to Boise State in their BCS bowl game last year, right?

The Pac 10 is better than the Big 12 and is probably as good as the SEC. The Big 12 is akin to the ACC and Big East.

Yale could be Indiana, for god's sake.

                    • You are on crack. No one considers the Big XII one of the top 2 conferences except for rubes from the midwest. The fact that you think Yale could be Indiana shows you know absolutely nothing about football outside of your little enclave .

                        • Let's look at this. What conference is Oklahoma in? Kansas? Missouri?

                          What conference is LSU in?

NOT the Big 10,NOT Pac 10 as a clue. That's 40% of the Top 10.

Throw in your slandered Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Oklahoma St., Nebraska and of course Texas and when they have to play each other someone loses.

                          • What conference is Oregon in (you know, the #3 ranked team)? What about Arizona State or USC or Cal? Just because YOU underrate the Pac 10 doesn't mean everyone does.

What conference is Ohio State in (you know, the #1 ranked team)?

Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, and Nebraska (especially Nebraska) suck this year. A&M got slaughtered by Miami, Oklahoma State got beat down by Troy (TROY!!), and Nebraska has been horrid. Texas Tech is alright (their OOC schedule is a joke) and Texas is good (though similar concerns about the OOC schedule), but that's as far as that goes.

                            That's 40% of the Top 10.

Wait until the end of the season. Hell, wait until Kansas and Missou play each other. The loser (probably Missou) will drop out of the Top 10 right away. And then the Big XII Championship Game will drop the other one. That's the benefit to not playing until late in the season... you have more teams ranked highly than otherwise.

Btw, you have to learn how to count. Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri are 3 teams out of 10. That's 30%. In the BCS OSU is #1 and Big Ten, LSU is #2 (SEC), Oregon #3 (Pac 10), Kansas #4, Oklahoma #5, Missou #6, West Virginia #7 (Big East), Boston College #8 (ACC), Arizona State #8 (Pac 10), and Georgia #10 (SEC). Oh, and after that is VTech (ACC), Michigan (Big 10), and UConn (Big East) before Texas shows up.

No bull****. Just what I said. Playing in their own tough division.

Actually, I misspoke. ACC is better than the Big 10.

You know what the answer is. Do away with non-conference games. Play the season. Play the playoffs.

And when that happens the loser will likely drop OUT of the Top 10, so then you can say, well you have 20% of the Top 10...

Oh, and you messed up a bit... their division ain't that "tough".
