    Speaking of things of beauty...

Although I'd prefer a sweep (actually, I'd prefer the MFY to go 0-162 ), today was good enough. Good to come back strong from yesterday's disaster, good to make sure the MFY can't gain more than one game on the weekend.

Tigers are up 4-0, so likely on their way to being 2.5 back in the wildcard.

Unfortunately you don't get that luxury .

It's ok though... even though the Phillies have the Mets' number... it is very likely that the Phillies will play their last game this year when the regular season ends .

Maybe... but for today, we'll just enjoy another sweep.

That Yanks-Sox game was too exciting in the 9th. But damned Jeter

Well, the division is almost certainly lost, but it is still nice to take 2 of 3 up at Fenway, and crucial because of the Tigers' surge.

I missed all the nuttiness, having gone to sleep early, but it sounds like it was a real nail-biter. Way to go Captain. Joba gives up his first earned run, but also gets through 2 innings. And Mo, while shaky, gets the clutchiest clutcher who ever clutched for the final out.

Wow. The Yankees beat Baltimore. Will wonders never cease?

3.5 back in the division, 3.5 up in the WC (thanks to Cleveland's comeback ).

I don't like the look of the pitching the Yanks will face in the upcoming Toronto series, though. Ugh. Granted, the Yanks have recently gotten to some of those pitchers, but it won't be a cakewalk by any stretch... and the Yanks really need cakewalks right now.

Mussina with his best start of the year, throwing ~90mph with movement on the fastball, hitting spots = nice.

Gagne blowing ANOTHER game for Boston = better.

Tigers losing again = best (yes, winning the division would be cool, but making the playoffs is top priority).

                      ****ing Mets

I just can't a handle on that team. The Phils are looking good though, but I wonder when they are going to do the while NL East streaky team thing (as they have been doing the last month or so).

So, Imran, what's wrong with the Mets?

Actually, no, they're not. They almost blew an eleven run lead on Monday. Last night their two "aces" gave up all the runs (4 runs in 5 innings pitched). And the Mets completely self-destructed against them this past weekend - not that I'm complaining - but if you make six errors in one game, you're gonna lose to anyone.

I am a Phillies fan. I'm one of those obnoxious idiots that likes to go to the ballpark and boo the people that deserve to be booed (queue Jose Mesa). If this team makes the playoffs, it will be purely because of dumb luck, not skill or anything resembling management (at any level).

                          GO PHILLIES!!

Yah know, it took me I don't know how many times watching the clip to figure out what was "special" about it, so for anyone else as dense as I am.... look at the BAT.
