Oh, and I'll be sure to change the title as things progress (ie, "The Playoffs", etc).

What's going on with the Mets, Imran? I haven't been paying attention, but I just noticed their lead is down to 2 games. I know there have been injuries...

    Honest question, not needling.

Well, it's mostly just a 4 game sweep by the Phils, which is a lot due to the bullpen at the moment (last night they tried to have Wagner do a 6 out save... he doesn't do them very often at all).

About a week ago, it was a 5 game lead. The Mets just don't have great luck with the Phils.

And the Mets, seemingly listening to you, Arrian, rock Tim Hudson 7-1 to stop the slide.

Oh, and on the Rick Ankiel front, Ankiel hits the go ahead GRAND SLAM HR as the Cards beat the Reds by 3. Unbelievable!

          unbelievable !

Also pretty incredible was the no-hitter thrown by Clay Bucholz in his 2nd major-league start. Impressive, young one.

Meanwhile, the Yanks **** the bed against the D-Rays and in game 1 against the Mariners. At least Ian Kennedy pitched well in his debut and got the W.

Yeah, that was real nice. Matsubaka almost choked away another one, but luckily the offense was on.

Ellsbury is living up to (very high) expectations and then some. Once Manny's back, Nancy Drew may be the most expensive 4th outfielder in history. Another brilliant Epstein move.

MFY seem to really gear up for the Sox, while the Sox can't find their collective asses with both hands cuffed behind their backs. Losing back two games over the four after that series isn't exactly a real momentum builder, though.

Now let's just hope the M's and the Tigers come on and surge...

The Sox game was 10-1. We were watching tennis, with occasional flicks to check on the Sox for the wife.

10-1. Flick. Tennis for a while. Flick. 10-9. But then they pulled away again.

Not that it matters. The division is almost certainly lost, even if the Sox had lost that game. The WC situation, which looked real good for the Yanks recently, has me worried again.

I'm concerned about Hughes. His curveball just hasn't been the same since his return from the DL. He needs that back.

The Phillies pick the worst times to suck. That's what's up with the Mets.

It's not that bad of a time .

Good win for the Yanks. Wang pitched well (why, Joe, did you send him out for the 8th with a 10-run lead, when he had to sit for half and hour or more when the Yanks batted in the 7th? WTF?). 17-6, 3.68 ERA. Nice.

ARod may be hurt, which is one of the scariest things a Yankee fan can think right now. It doesn't seem bad, but you never know. Beltre rolled over his leg and I guess it hurt his knee or ankle. They cannot afford to lose him, even for a little while. They're just not good enough w/o him. Heh.

He hit one of the most monstrous home runs I've ever seen... a total moon shot to the upper deck in left. Meanwhile, ho-hum, Posada goes 4-4 with 2 HRs and a BB. Posada to Yankee management: "**** you! Pay me!" Yes, some of those ABs were against terrible Seattle pitchers. I know.

The Tigers lost, yay. Doug ManCaveItch came in to play first, taking over Andy Phillips' spot (who broke his wrist, after having taken Doug's spot after he had... broken his wrist...). That put a slight damper on things. If he plays in non-blowout games, he WILL cost the Yankees runs, and possibly wins.

The Red Sox also won. Beckett - 17-6, 3.30 ERA. Also nice. Nicer, even. But I'll take my guy.

                        -Arrian

p.s. See, Imran? The Mets don't need a Yankee fan's help to win.

Nice job by Gordon and Myers today... way to hold that six run lead.

                            Oof.

Big win for the Yanks last night, kicking the Mariners 3 games back in the WC. Hughes pitched well, and the offense woke after sleeping for 6 innings or so. ARod hit two more HRs - the first of which was huge in that it tied the game at 2. The yanks also benifitted from two blown calls (both against Ichiro), so I guess we're even for the Bloomquist call earlier this year (though the clear impact of that call was a loss, whereas it's not so clear in this game). These things do tend to even out.

The BoSox lost, with Okajima giving up the winning runs. Still, 6 games is too much. I'd love it if the Yanks could cut it down to 4 in time for the series at Fenway, but I doubt it. The Yanks are going on the road (KC/Toronto), while the Sox play Baltimore & Tampa Bay at home. If anything, the likely result is the Yanks losing some ground.

JEEZ! Check the guy for 'roids! After hitting his 7th HR of the season a few days ago, Ankiel jacks TWO today against the Pirates and now has 9 HRs on the year in 23 games. His SLG is .750 .
