I'm talking about who's going to make the playoffs.

Do I really need to explain why I'm talking about Nashville in relation to Calgary and Colorado?

      • It's important to pick someone very reliable in your top picks. Sakic is at the age where he's not 100% reliable for health reasons, and that drops him to, at best, a 2nd-choice skater. In most cases, this is a third round (goalie + skater).

Because they had a firesale and will not compete with any of the two?

You're completely random as far as I'm concerned with your hockey opinions, there's no rhyme or reason.

            • I find that most people who call other peoples' opinions 'random' usually just don't agree with those other people, and the statement itself has little value other than to demean the other person, and to devalue the argument of the caller.

Typically it is not hard to call out 'random' opinions simply by stating the facts... if someone continues to disagree with you, either they are starting from a different set of assumptions, or they're not of the same level of intelligence as you (one way or the other), and neither will change by demeaning them

Looks like I have to explain to you that playoff spots are determine by conference, not division. If Colorado (a team in the Western Conference) makes the playoffs, and I'm sure they will, then the only way Calgary (a team in the Western Conference), will make the playoffs is if Nashville (a team taht made the Western Conference playoffs last year) collapses. All the other teams that made the playoffs in the west last year are likely to do so again.

Understand, or is that too random for ya.

They're genuinely inconsistent to the point of being random. He's the only person I know who doesn't have respect for Kiprusoff, and there's really no rhyme or reason for it.

Even after the spectacular 03-04 season and post-season, he called Kiprusoff a "flash in the pan". After the Vezina, he still wasn't deserving of the award...even now, he's called "Kippersoft" by Tingkai.

Can you explain this, other than calling it rather random?

                    lets see

Malkin, Spezza, Alfredsson, Staal, St Louis, Briere, Drury

Were these the ones you were thinking about ??

I'm very comfortable with my Lecavalier pick-- The guy is what, 28 years old and just had a breakout season. I happen to think he will play as well again (and with their weak keepers he should be in a few run and gun type games) But like any pick, it could backfire on me

I understand your reasoning, and I dismiss it as basic misunderstanding of the sport.

You seem to think the spots are locked except for Calgary and Nashville. I think that's a ridiculous assumption altogether. Are you aware of all of the movement in the league?

Calgary's got a killer lineup of talent. They were huge underachievers last year with a rookie coach who held them back.

Nashville, on the other hand, has had a genuine firesale and the vast majority of their top-end talent has departed for greener pastures.

Colorado has tremendous offense but swiss-cheese defense and mediocre goaltending.

I think it's WAY too early for anyone to make statements that the Western conference is all locked save for a couple teams. Ridiculous.

Yes, back in 03-04, I said he could be a flash in the pan. Do you not understand what that phrase means?

And look at his stats last year. Not a top goalie like Brodeur, Hasek and Luongo.

This year, as always, Brodeur was rightfully the first goalie picked. Luongo definitely #2. And after that, the next 6 are all in the same range, each could be great, but each has a question mark.

It just makes him look ignorant about the sport, and that's fine with me.

I think it genuinely all boils down to jealousy. The Leafs are another bad team this year, and he probably knows it (how could you not after 40 years of experience?). He's a bit bitter that Calgary's been the better team in recent memory.

After all, everything about Toronto is the best in the world. Including their hockey teams.

Oh, no. You said he WAS a flash in the pan. There's a HUGE difference.

And look at his stats last year. Not a top goalie like Brodeur, Hasek and Luongo.
Last year was brutal for all of Calgary. Kiprusoff was still stellar -- did you watch the playoffs?

There is NO way any reasonable person could not put Kiprusoff in the same league as Brodeur, Hasek, and Luongo.

                              Look at the playoff stats:
                              Hasek: 91.3%
                              Brodeur: 91.6%
                              Kiprusoff: 92.9%
                              Luongo: 94.1%

They're all in the same "top goaltender" echelon. If anything, Hasek is a bit below the others -- he had an awesome defense infront of him, saw almost no shots on goal. And, again, if you watched the playoff series, Kiprusoff outplayed Hasek significantly. Hasek even had some brutal games.

Some of those, not others and a couple more you didn't mention.

Like I say, we'll see how it plays out. I just don't trust Lecavalier's consistency. His breakout year was a 33 point jump over the year previous - I can't see that being maintained. He's a great talent and upper-round pick, to be sure. I'm just not sold on him being worth 9th overall.
