Not really if I understand how this works-- perhaps I misunderstand the rules-- BUt am I not free to tinker with my roster before each night so it is possible to keep say 3 centres almost fully occupied (except on nights they all play)-- Or does it work some other way--

What you may not be taking into account is that good wingers are far more uncommon than good centres.

Every year there will be a pool of centres to pick up and drop as needed. You will not find many good wingers floating around on a regular basis.

Also, you will see a number of nights with log jams. By far the most games are played on Saturdays. You will often have 14 players all playing that night and you will have to choose 10 of them. Tuesdays and Thursdays are other nights than can see log jams.

You can have a great centre/goalie, but he may be playing the same nights as 2 other better options for the position and you leave him on the bench the entire week or only get a single game from him.

There's more to the draft than drilling straight down.

I knew that but it still fights instinct to take a 60 point winger over a 90 point centre. But if the drop off to the next available winger is greater hanthe next centre, I see your point

Thats becoming apparent-- The winger rosters are starting to look pretty thin

My impression was that the logjams are not as bad as all that. I guess if someone minded to do the research . . . you could minimize that somewhat ( ie US teamns often play Sunday afternoon while Canadian squads are usually Saturday night etc)-- but who has the time

Well you obviously have a different strategy than most -- you are the only person without a goalie . . . I actually think it is gutsy attempt to dominate the skater categories-- and a goalie may appear that you can snap up ( but its possible that someone can pick up a left winger too)

I actually like the complexity of this draft-- I actually am finding the process a lot of fun

It's not so much the 60 point winger vs the 90 point center - it's the difference between the current "Best winger" and "Best Center" and the last starting winger/center (or even, the last chosen winger/center, both are relevant). If the current best winger is 60 and the best center is 90, and the 48th best winger is 40 and the 24th best center is 75, then clearly the winger is the right choice - he's worth 20 points above baseline for his position.

Hence my strategy - Defense is a position with relatively few quality players, and so taking two high scoring (hopefully, whitney, hopefully...) defensemen is a higher payoff above baseline than my BAW or BAC.

Now, the real question is, can I find three more wingers...
