See, that's the problem with football in your country. Elsewhere it's a grass-roots movement. Teams started out with a "grass" field and from there on they grew, building stands and entire stadiums to cope with increasing audiences. In the US a bunch of bobos wanted to create a significant league top-down and teams end(ed) up playing on rugby fields in massively oversized stadiums.
I think some US teams do have dedicated stadiums. They could't play on a grass field because they already draw big crowds, so they have to use other sports stadiums in the meantime.

Yes... I think that was the point in a ham handed way.

Well.. guess it sucks to be you then .

I'm sure if your country introduced a new sport highly popular elsewhere, they'd have to play on the fields of the prior sport for a while until they got their own.

I don't know if you heard but all the matches in WC '94 were on converted American football fields.

Indeed 7 out of the 13 teams have Soccer Specific Stadiums (LA Galaxy and Chivas USA both call the Home Depot Center as their home park). Two more are unveiling Soccer Specific Stadiums (SSS) next year: Red Bull NY and Real Salt Lake (though the Sandy Stadium project for Real Salt Lake is very touch and go at this point). DC United is also planning a new stadium in 2008 pending the city's approval to turn over the land.

So that's potentially 10 out of the 13 teams by the start of 2008 season. The other three are Kansas City, New England, and Houston. KC is planning a new SSS by 2009 season. Houston is planning a new SSS in downtown Houston by 2009 or 2010 season. While New England is owned by the same person who owns the NFL New England Patriots, so likely the Revolution will be staying put in Gillette Stadium (and it's 68,000+ capacity) for the time being.

They should've called themselves "Real Salt Fake City".

          • Well, they were able to parlay the name into some exhibitions with Real Madrid, so it made some cash .

Chelsea have confirmed that midfielder Steve Sidwell has agreed to join the club on a free transfer from July 1.

The 24-year-old has quit Reading after rejecting a new £25,000-per-week, four-year deal.

Former champions Chelsea have been consistently linked with a move for the highly-rated midfielder throughout the season.

Sidwell opted to join the Blues despite interest from Newcastle United, Everton and Aston Villa.

Have fun sitting on the bench, Steve. Should have asked Scott Parker and SWP about being snapped up by Chelsea in crowded positions.
