    unbelieveable!

Holy **** that was amazing. I missed it, because it all happened as I was walking to my car from the office. I turned on the radio, expecting to hear the wrap-up of a loss, to hear the aftermath of pandemonium.

By the way, ARod's been, as a Yankee:

    2004 - Excellent
    2005 - Amazing
2006 - Very good (still the best 3B in the league)
2007 - and now he's cranked it up to 11, so far.

This year he's clearly on a mission. He dropped weight, quit trying to always say the right/nice thing, and is just attacking the ball. With both his mind and his body on the same page... this is what you get (though even he cannot sustain this - this is unbelievable).

Do not tar and feather all Yankee fans with the brush of blind ARod hatred. Some of us stuck up for him, last year included. He will probably opt out, sure... but then again he might've done that anyway. If he's playing his best, it's the smart financial move, and he's a Boras client.

      The new chant, Boras style: Con-tract Ye-ar! Con-tract Ye-ar!

Maybe A-rod got motivated by the crazier than a ****house rat spending for guys like Soriano, and figures now he really has a chance to up his contract.

Hell, you may have a point. If Soriano gets that much money, how much is A-Rod worth in this market?

Exactly. So regardless of the stupidity of some Yankee fans over the past couple of years, ARod was/is probably gonna opt out anyway. He's worth so much on the open market he'd be stupid not too. He's a little dumb, but he's not THAT dumb, and Boras sure as hell isn't stupid.

Well, there is a pretty decent chance, however, that he won't get $25 mil per year, even on the open market. Even if Soriano got $17m/year. The idiocy of GMs can be fickle. After the heydey of A-Rod's massive contract and Manny's $20mil/year deal, GMs became more tight spending until this past off-season.

Though he'll probably get close to that amount, it isn't assured by any strech.

Wow, the umps in the Cubs game are pure $^%# today. Angel Hernandez primarily... Not that I care as it's the Cubs but still, pure $#%...

              * In the 1st, Mark DeRosa hits a sure double play grounder to third. Out recorded at second, but the relay to 1st is off the bag, pulling Pujols off the bag towards home. He tags at DeRosa, and apparently misses. Angel Hernandez makes a "SAFE" call, not just a no-call but "SAFE", and then on the way back to the bag DeRosa gets tagged and called out. Doesn't make a move towards second or anything. Replays show he didn't hit first on the way in, so it's the correct call - but Angel Hernandez needs to not make a SAFE call since DeRosa wasn't safe...
              * Later in the game, runners on 1st and second, nobody out, down by 1 (7th inning), Henry Blanco at the plate. Bunts the ball, it goes straight up right past home. He stands there like an idiot while Molina literally hugs him, gets a glove on the ball but it drops; the baserunners leave at that point, molina throws to 2nd (force) and then to third (tag). Triple play, right? Nope... they call batter's interference and call Blanco out (but neither of the baserunners). The correct call on replay is clearly shown as a double play, with the lead runner tagged out at 3rd, and Blanco tagged out at home, but the trailing runner safe at 2nd (no force). How you call batter's interference when it benefits the offensive team I have no idea.

... and they top it by calling Roger Cedeno out attempting to steal second WHILE JACQUE JONES TAKES BALL FOUR.

                  On the batter interference:
[q=mlb.com] If, however, the catcher makes a play and the runner attempting to advance is put out, it is to be assumed there was no actual interference and that runner is out—not the batter. Any other runners on the base at the time may advance as the ruling is that there is no actual interference if a runner is retired. In that case play proceeds just as if no violation had been called.[/q]

                  Clearly a bad call.

They did however make the correct call on Cedeno (same page, later):
[q=mlb.com]If, in advancing, the base runner thinks there is a play and he slides past the base before or after touching it he may be put out by the fielder tagging him. If he fails to touch the base to which he is entitled and attempts to advance beyond that base he may be put out by tagging him or the base he missed.[/q]

And the first call was clearly done poorly, even if it ended up accurate.

Damn good Sox-Yanks game so far.

A-Rod has had TWO HRs so far. One more AB to go.

                                THAT was something.

Back to back to back to back home runs in the 3rd gives Boston a 4-3 lead.
