I'm still not too sure why San Jose sent Bernier down to the minors. The guy had 25 points, including 13 on the powerplay, and was a +3 (which was actually down from +6, but he had a bad last game against Phoenix). It's not like they have a ton of great right wingers waiting to take his spot either. I'd guess it's a salary thing, but I don't think he makes that much.

The word is his attitude was bad (cocky, getting "lazy") and his play was regressing. Ditto for Carle. The move was to send them a message that they can't slack at all.

Another Oilers-Flyers trade.

Joffrey Lupul and Raffi Torres for Pitkanen (an impressive -19 this season).

(Nedved, BTW, is already minus in Edmonton as well)

Pitkanen is the second lowest in +/- in Philly, behind Kyle Calder. So I'm not sure your "everyone is minus on Philly" excuse continues to hold. Almost everyone is minus, but some players are a lot MORE minus than others...

It's kind of an absurd rumour though, isn't it?

A team in rebuilding mode gives up on a very highly regarded 22 year-old?

"Rebuilding mode"? The Oilers are not in rebuilding mode...

Their goaltender is old, their star forward sn't young at all, they have no good defense in the NHL or in the farm clubs...

The Oilers are weak, but saying they're in a rebuilding mode is a laugh. Teams in rebuilding modes do not trade 1st round draft picks to teams like Anaheim.

Calgary's got better young guys in the NHL/AHL clubs than Edmonton and I wouldn't dare call the Flames a "rebuilding" team.

So you do admit he's one of the main players on the team responsible for their horrific play...

Who has what value in +/- is as relevant as who was the last to hit the water from the passengers and crew of the Titanic.

You do not seem to comprehend that while on a team like Philly, virtually everyone is minus...but this does not rule out the usefulness of the stat. Some players are especially bad, and have team-low +/-...go figure those are the ones Philly wants to get rid of.

It's so confusing to me why you assume there's all kinds of great talent on Philly that just suck because the team sucks. Here's a newsflash...the players on Philly's team aren't playing well. That is why the team sucks. Picking players in the bottom end of the spectrum of a terrible team does not really make sense.

Pitkanen is ranked 33rd out of 34 skaters on the '06/'07 Flyers in +/-. That's impressive no matter how bad your team sucks.

Now if only he could score as much as Dustin Boyd in the AHL or NHL.

And what about goaltenders? Roloson's fading fast, who is in line to replace him? Jussy Rebounds?

Your #1 goalie prospect is Devan Dubnyk. He's being outplayed by 2 of Calgary's goalie prospects: Leland Irving and Curtis McElhinney

That's a little personal, isn't it? Speaking of what I comprehend?

At any rate, have a look at who is 29th and then have a look at his career numbers. That'll say something about the value of +/- as a measure of players.
