Still another half to go, so Florida can blow it. And if any team can come back from 20 down against Florida at the half, it's Ohio State with Troy Smith.

A first question we have to address is whether we were completely wrong about Ohio State the whole year or whether Ohio State just having a bad game tonight.

If the game ends up the way it is now, a second question would be who is number two in the nation. Would it be USC which blew out Michigan or LSU who blew out Notre Dame?

Probably a combination of both. Ohio State obviously isn't playing well, but it's also completely possible that they've been overrated all along. The Big Ten was a joke this year and their two big wins (Texas, Michigan) don't look as impressive when you factor in Michigan's exposure at the hands of USC and the fact that Texas was breaking in a freshman QB.

Also a third possibility, Ned, that Urban Meyer is a better coach than Jim Tressel. Meyer has been consistently underrated by those who say he plays a "gimmick" offense.

Sweater Vest is a great coach (despite that bonehead 4th and 1 call), as is Meyer. Coaching doesn't seem like the difference so far. Florida just seems a lot more athletic...

BTW, how bad do Arkansas and Tennessee look now? How could they not put away the Big Ten B-team when USC and Florida have shown just how overrated and unathletic the Big Ten really is?

You are forgetting the even more boneheaded move - staying in a zone against a QB that carves up teams that let him have the short passing game.

The announcers made it sound like they've played zone almost exclusively all year. If that's the case, I can't blame Tressel for sticking with what the players know. Going to man if your players don't know what they're doing could be an even bigger disaster. Better to sit in zone, play bend don't break and throw in more blitzes to try to fluster Leak and get him to make mistakes.

Of course, when the announcers made that comment about the zone defense, my first comment was "How can a top team get away with that?" I guess it's possible when you have an easy schedule...

Heh... perhaps. It would amaze me that if OSU has played zone all year exclusively, that no team has abused that by going to a short passing game, dinking and dunking down the field like Florida did in the 1st half.

It would amaze me, too, but when I think about their schedule it doesn't seem so impossible. McCoy wasn't experienced enough to pick apart a zone when he played them and Henne seems a lot more comfortable with the deep ball and play action than with the short passing game. Even so, Henne did end up throwing for a lot of yards against OSU. Michigan's overrated D just couldn't make a stop...
