  • I don't blame them for riding their running game. Rather, I blame them for lying to Mustain and the rest of the Springdale prospects (and their new offensive coordinator, who apparently was hired in order to entice the Springdale kids to come to Arkansas) by saying that they would do fun 'n gun, when in fact they're doing something like the wishbone.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

    • I don't know about that. Next year Peterson is gone. Maybe then.

      • You mean McFadden? Peterson is in Oklahoma .

[q=mrmitchell]Mitch has gone to practice and will not ask for a transfer. He is unconcerned about playing time and simply wants to see the Hogs play a balanced offense.

Now, I'm no head coach, but I know two things: 1) even a balanced offense focuses on its strong points, but 2) 4th rushing and 105th passing is not a balanced offense.[/q]

I've been following this a little as well and I think it is foolish for Mustain, Williams, and the other WR (I forget his name right now) to complain about the offense and how it isn't the spread offense they thought it was going to be. Nutt has consistently made clear that it'd be a gradual shift. You can't just take a team that was focused on running the ball to a spread offense overnight. You have to have baby steps. When you have two stud RBs, including, arguably, the best in the country (though I'd personally say AP is), you are going to run a bit more. By the time the Freshman class would be Juniors, I'm certain it'd be more of what they were used to with Malzahn when he was their high school coach.

They never lied. Nutt and Malzahn have consistently made it clear that it would be a gradual shift, not an overnight one.

          • But it's not even gradually shifting. It's regressing.

            • Look at the QB stats this year. Especially look at the fact that he started a freshman QB for most of the season. I doubt they really thought Mustain was going to be their starting QB for most of the season before the USC game. It only goes to figure that they'll throw more once the QBs get more seasoned.

Was kind of late. Yes, I erred.
The point remains even if the personnel change, as you pointed out.

                • ...um, because we don't want THAT playoff...?

I know that you would prefer a different system, but I'd wager the CNNSI playoff is closer to what we'd actually get for a playoff than your idea.

Exactly. The darksiders (those against Nutt) have been preaching the Big Lie for months now, and it's bursted out into the national media. God help us from getting any more egg on our face than we have now.
