  • As for this Onyewu person I know nothing of, saw him play for USA in the world cup against Italy I think.

What kind of defender is he? strong? technical? fast? tall?

    • He is a big strong defender. He's 6'4'' (1.93 m) and weighs 210 pounds (95 kg). However he does have pretty good agility, especially for a player that size. He marks pretty well and is willing to play rough. With some refs that gets him in trouble with cards, but the EPL should suit him.

He's been a very good player in Standard Liege.

I think Onyewu and Taylor will be a very solid pairing.

        • 3-1 to the Arsenal in the 2nd leg, more humiliation for our neighbours, and we're in the final.

          • "humiliation"?

I thought the first leg ended fairly, more than we ****ed it up. I havent seen the 2nd leg at all, but i know Sir Arse-ne didnt play his second string.

AFAIK we had something like 40% possession and it was decreasing as the game went on. We didnt play our best and it wasnt our night. :shrugs:

I cant believe some people are suggesting this is the end of Martin Jol though

            • Experienced players who came on certainly swung it, but of the starting XI last night, only two were automatic first teamers (Gilberto and Toure). In the first leg, only Fabregas and Toure started.

Team 1 : Lehmann, Eboue, Clichy, Toure, Gallas, Gilberto, Fabregas, Hleb, Rosicky, Henry, Van Persie

Team 2: Almunia, Hoyte, Senderous, Djourou, Traore, Walcott, Diaby, Denilson, Flamini, Adabayor, Baptisita

I think you are not in tune with most Spurs fans if you don't think you screwed up the first leg. I can believe that some people want Jol out (The 'Fat Dutch Clown', they are calling him), because that's the way it tends to work at the Lane - despite him being your best manager since ... George Graham.

I have to agree with LordShiva that being a top player in the Belgian league isn't particularly flattering.

I couldnt give two ****s what those fans think, they care more about a few rivalries than the overall position of the club.

The first leg was a fair result, each team took each half. Our approach to the second half shouldve been different to win, but its hard to get that calm defensive mentality from such a young team.

                      Italian league halted by violence

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has called off all this weekend's Serie A and Serie B games after a policeman was killed at a match on Friday.

A 38-year-old officer died as violence flared during and after the Serie A game between Sicilian rivals Catania and Palermo, which Palermo won 2-1.
What will it take to get their house in order? Ban all Italian clubs and national team from Euro/WC competitions i say.

I agree. In fact, this should have happened already, after the corruption business.

                            • I would love to be a fly on the wall the next time the Ireland squad gathers.

The time O'Shea saved one on one from Robbie Keane was class
It was also pretty funny when the away crowd were singing: Irelands number one, Irelands number one!

                              0-4

                              • A classic Ronaldo dive to set up the first goal. There should have been a penalty against Neville for hauling down his man. How Scholes avoided getting booked for his continuous hacking down of opponents can only be explained by the Man Utd shirt he was wearing.

I did enjoy seeing Robbie Keane screw up though.
