  • Yes. Exactly. But the problem is that there is no free lunch either way, but the psychology and rhetoric have been turned in such a way as to give the idea that the free lunch is being taken away by healthcare reform.
Uh, quite the opposite. Obama is offering a free lunch. He's gonna pay your gas and your mortgage too.

In theory. The way health insurance really works is that claims adjusters are given bonuses for denying benefits for health problems which are covered.

Isn't that the first rule of acquisition anyways?

Once you have their money, you never give it back?

I don't see why I should be forced to buy insurance.

I dunno. Ask Romney. He's the one who started all of this.

                    • People understand that money rations things. That's the whole point of price. What they don't understand is that they aren't permitted to buy something that they do have the money for.
Except, of course, that there are countless stories of people who had health insurance and then, once they had a condition the company didn't want to pay for, got screwed by the ever-so-clear "pre-existing condition" excuse or some other bull**** (as opposed to a clear provision excluding coverage for something - which is IMHO another matter).

Rationing of care is going to happen somehow, someway. It happens now, and it will happen tomorrow, regardless of which reform package ends up going through. I would have thought, btw, that the "fiscally conservative" party would be interested in ensuring some rationing for, you know, cost control. Not that this measure that Palin is using actually has anything to do with cost control, mind you. This is complete bull****, and even you must know it.

I read recently, btw, that the measure Palin & Co. are misconstruing was greated by a couple of GOP senators. Heh.

                      • I honestly don't get the claim that a public option will lead to rationing. I mean if the public option is bad because it has rationing or something then people will opt for private insurance. This just gives everyone another choice and if it is such a bad choice, as certain people claim, then no one will opt for it so there is nothing to worry about.

I have no problem rationing care through price. That's the way we do it with everything else. Why should health care be any different?

The problem with Obamacare is that you are forcing everyone to pay for coverage they do not want. This is not right. The problem with the program is that because of how it is done, premiums will NEVER cover the cost of coverage even if you charge everyone. This isn't an insurance 'plan', this is just a nightmare. Someone has to pay for the shortfalls that you will see every year.

The second problem is competition. This legislation will put private enterprises out of business, especially if you charge everyone. You say, well it's ok, we can always take private coverage on top of public coverage, but the money that people would otherwise put into buying private care for themselves and their families, that will be dumped into Obamacare. Your taxes will go up significantly to what we see here in Canada to pay for Obamacare. Private insurance companies will fold. You will not have the choice to simply take private care, because Obamacare is sucking up everything else, either by legislation, or by the effect of confiscatory taxes.

It bothers me to see you folks making the same mistakes we made 40 years ago. You do not want our system of care. You want to keep your own. I'm not saying that the American system is perfect, but it is a hell of a lot better then ours.

I would have thought, btw, that the "fiscally conservative" party would be interested in ensuring some rationing for, you know, cost control. We believe in free enterprise. Increasing taxation massively to pay for a government boondoggle is not fiscally conservative.

Do you also object this much to mandatory automobile insurance?

This is ridiculous considering that it is based on private insurance companies (you know, the ones that worked out a deal with Obama a few months ago?)

Yes, a whole Hell of a lot of times. They are what a significant wing of the Republican Party used to be (the Rockefeller Republicans). If you'd rather have then be Democrats and give the entire NE to that party, be prepared for the "permanent majority" the Republicans used to talk about.
