US Navy to start 'blockading any and all ships' trying to enter or leave Strait of Hormuz, says Trump
US President Donald Trump says that the US is going to start "BLOCKADING any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz".
In a lengthy new post on Truth Social, he says that "the meeting went well, most points were agreed to, but the only point that really mattered, NUCLEAR, was not".
He says that "at some point" an agreement on free passage will be reached, but "Iran has not allowed that to happen by merely saying, 'There may be a mine out there somewhere,' that nobody knows about but them."
In the same post Trump also says that he's "instructed our Navy to seek and interdict every vessel in International Waters that has paid a toll to Iran", and that the US Navy is going to start " destroying the mines the Iranians laid in the Straits".
"No one who pays an illegal toll will have safe passage on the high seas," he says, adding "any Iranian who fires at us, or at peaceful vessels, will be BLOWN TO HELL!"
"The Blockade will begin shortly," he says.

My favourite latest development of the Iranian farce is the video of the Iranian speedboat chasing away the two US destroyers from the strait of Hormuz that ran away after getting challenged 😅
Captained by My Wife Hates AMERICA and Oerdimmer, I'm guessing 🤣🤪💩💩💩"Aha, you must have supported the Iraq war and wear underpants made out of firearms, just like every other American!" Loinburger

I don't really want to discuss Trump, but as a niche-interest thing, I learned enough Welsh to do a passable job reading a Gospel passage in it yesterday for Orthodox Easter. That was a thing. I did the double-L for real, no "lth" crap.
But, Trump being the subject ... sigh. The thing is, America is divided between two sets of people who are in hock to different lunatic minorities who want different absolutely terrible things (the Democrats are more genteel about it, but the Democrats are more genteel about a lot of things). The people in the middle are kind of apathetic as long as gas stays cheap, but Trump won the last election for a variety of reasons and the people who always hated him still hated him and the people who support him still support him because he hated the people they hated and the middle still noticed that gas was reasonably cheap and Trump kept backing down. Basically, his survival till now is due to him being persistently thwarted during his first term and persistently chickening out every time people started to worry he was going to do something dramatically stupid. Then he did something dramatically stupid which he lacks the power to unilaterally walk back, viz. the Iran War. As plenty of people have pointed out, this could be his biggest mistake ever, and I am wondering if this is finally going to be the thing that gets us to jettison the jackass for good. But, of course, I hoped that before. We'll see.

Republicans will never abandon Trump. 10 years, 2 impeachments, 1 pandemic, 1 million deaths, 1 insurrection, and 34 felony convictions in, that should be pretty obvious.Click here if you're having trouble sleeping.

Hey that's really cool! 👍 How come you were learning Welsh to read a gospel passage for Orthodox Easter?Originally posted by Elok View PostI don't really want to discuss Trump, but as a niche-interest thing, I learned enough Welsh to do a passable job reading a Gospel passage in it yesterday for Orthodox Easter. I didn't think the Welsh were very Orthodox, though interestingly there's a big Wales - Ukraine connection, due to the fact that Wales became the first industrial nation in the world.
Basically the Welsh set up Ukraine's own industrial revolution and even founded Donetsk, which used to be called Hughesovka, after John Hughes who founded it.
There was a really big Welsh ex-pat community, with its own hospital, schools, church etc. so maybe there was crossover with the Orthodox religion etc?
Cardiff is also twinned with Luhansk.
All good points, well made. Certainly a really interesting observation that plays out over here, with Brexit, and now the Reform Party. Hopefully Trump will drag Farage down with the sinking ship. Reform have taken a big dip in the polls since the war, due to his hero worship of Trump... 🙏

Well, in reverse order, the 34 felony convictions were for paying off his mistress with the wrong slush fund, pretty well Monica Lewinski horse**** but going through the courts instead of congress (and the Lewinski this time was a porn star, not an intern, so it was actually less scuzzy). He has done many things that should get him a felony conviction but the actual felony conviction was for something asinine nobody should care about for non-political reasons. The insurrection was a bizarre half-accident that killed a couple of people--including one cop who died several hours after it ended but presumably from stress--and several of its perpetrators. Otherwise, no lasting harm. Could have gone much, much worse, but Trump has a powerful guardian devil working to make sure he skates as long as possible so ... yeah. That's also one impeachment accounted for. Trump's handling of the pandemic (for the portion of it he was in office) was mediocre at best but could have been much worse; he was actually initially pro-vaccine, if you recall, and pushed them hard until his supporters made angry noises. Trumpists did substantial damage by adopting absolutely moronic beliefs, which he actively and passively encouraged by being a coward, but the man's actions (as opposed to words) didn't count for much either way once he'd walked away from vaccine support (which was the only thing that really made a difference in the first place). First impeachment shouldn't have been attempted without the votes to convict and was largely a circus.
I'm not going to say this WILL get him the boot. I've been wrong before. GOP voters will apparently forgive a tremendous amount of stupidity if he goes after the right people. But what's different this time is that he lacks the capacity to undo it, unlike tariffs or the occupation of Minneapolis. And unlike abusing migrants or blowing up drug boats, it causes pain the average voting American can and will feel in a way that even an idiot can link to his actions. I don't want the war to continue, but Iran has no incentive to accept a peace treaty from him until they've inflicted substantial pain, so if this is Ukraine for our inept Putin, I can live with that as a silver lining. He has survived this long not by actual skill as a politician--he's a gifted bully and troll, not much else--but by a combination of astonishing good luck, willingness to retreat the moment he senses opposition from his base, and others' willingness to thwart him. Luck can't be a factor, he can't retreat, and it's too late to stop him. The presidential dong is in the meat grinder.
