  • Eh, I have time to kill. Why don't I just break down my actual political beliefs to see where I stand?

Abortion: Illegal except for life of or serious physical health threats to mother, plus fatal deformity of the fetus. Pretty solidly right wing. IVF should be regulated to ban discarding embryos, which is beyond right-wing at this point.
Trade: Tariffs are moronic. Protectionism is moronic. Free trade is good. This is sort of left-wing for the moment but there are protectionists on the Left too depending on industry so
Immigration: I have no idea how to fix our dependence on illegal immigrant labor, which isn't very healthy, but I don't believe they commit substantial amounts of actually worrisome crime or any of the other bogey-stories, and I don't believe Americans are going to pick all that fruit themselves. Sanctuary cities are a bad idea, but otherwise I'm Left on this one.
Education: Public schools should be shrunk until they're basically an extension of the DCF used to monitor the most at-risk children who default into them. Their role should be taken up by a vastly expanded network of charter and private schools, with vouchers at least to start. To the extent public schools exist at all, they should absolutely not have instruction in the Ten Commandments or anything similar. This works out to pretty right-wing, but with an asterisk.
Crime: Plea bargains are horrible. Death penalty should be abolished. Almost all drugs should be legalized under specific circumstances I won't detail right now. Prostitution should be legalized entirely. Hard left.
Other culture-war stuff: Fine with gay marriage. Generally fine with trans stuff with a few exceptions such as women's shelters where it's reasonable to have no-penis spaces. Hostile to gender reassignment for minors. Hostile to affirmative action and related things. This pretty well places me in the center.
I despise Trump and MAGA and would be participating in the No Kings demonstrations today if I believed in protesting in general.

    What did I leave out?

At face value I did chuckle at that, but then considered that what it alternatively says is that even during the time when corporal punishment was generally acceptable, rape most definitely wasn't.

The constant apologism for anything horrible done by the right wing. It's even sadder knowing you know they are wrong, disagree with them on various issues, but still go to bat for them.

People are suffering and dying because healthcare is unaffordable ... but don't you dare mention tens of billions in profits being made by insurers!

Trump is a convicted felon, admitted sexual molester, likely a rapist ... but don't you dare call him convicted rapist!

Trump's cabinet is filled with project 2025 authors who expressly want to limit immigration to white Christians, keep a white majority, deport as many brown people as they can ... but don't you dare call them Christian Nationalists!

Masked Federal agents are abducting people, deporting people to countries they've never been, sending people to foreign prisons without due process, breaking up families, zip tying kids ... but don't you dare call them fascist!

A group of men spend years compiling a vast repository of psychologically disturbing hate speech ... but don't you dare claim they actually mean what they say!

Nope. On a forum for a game that features war, genocide, and slavery, in an off-topic section with virtually no content moderation and a banner that reads "ABANDON HOPE YE WHO ENTER HERE"--a reference to Dante's Inferno about Hell--a user called Aeson, who used to run the site, talks casually about how "whipping [children]" could have "good" results.

"Whip them good" is a figure of speech often used in the local (time and place) dialect.

                        • Russian Orthodox Church metropolitan of Crimea Tikhon about the Kirk's murder:

Until a week ago, Charlie Kirk's name was practically unknown in Russia. He burst into our information space like a supernova explosion, generating a wave of indignation and admiration. Some saw in him the embodiment of unacceptable values and reacted with undisguised hatred and indignation: "As an American (American!) Could it be like this?!"
Others, with amazement and pain that he was no longer among the living, discovered an unexpected like-minded person. Death, without a doubt, became both the main sermon and the pinnacle of Charles Kirk's ministry. She also highlighted his finished image, full of faith, determination and Christian love, refuting the slander of those who read the Gospel with their eyes closed and do not understand that the convinced defense of the gospel truth is love in action.

The murderer and all those who stood behind him are powerless to put an end to the existence of a person who believes in Christ.

And in the millions of hearts of his like-minded people and friends, Charlie's martyrdom breathed new, multiplied life to serve their goals, thoughts, and beliefs. In the era of post-truth, relativism and militant liberalism, when reality is constructed by the media and social networks, and conformism has become the norm, the truth is drowning in a sea of political correctness. Charlie Kirk dared to go against the current. He did not accept semitones, compromises and deals with conscience. He didn't care what was fashionable, what was accepted, what the crowd dictated. He allowed himself the unprecedented luxury of calling a spade a spade in our time, even if it meant that such a royal choice would inevitably lead to a series of reckoning, up to the most terrible.

What is especially admirable about Charlie Kirk's figure is his willingness to speak about the Kingdom of Heaven, traditional values, and conservative principles in the most seemingly unsuitable places, most of whose inhabitants do not want to hear anything like that! He chose the "mission field", perhaps the most important, but, as we have seen, it is by no means safe, about the same as preaching somewhere in a tribe of cannibals.

Student campuses, youth environment of generations Z and Y. But even among these young and aggressive individuals, whom he loved so much in a Christian way, and in each of whom he saw the image and likeness of God, Charlie Kirk was not afraid to appear like a "black sheep", was not afraid to go against the flow, was not afraid to tell the truth — and exactly the way he understood it, even if it was often It caused anger and rejection.

Charlie's example is a lesson for us.

Here's what Jordan Peterson writes about him.:
"Charlie appeared out of nowhere 10 years ago and created the most influential organization of young conservatives in the world. And he did it from scratch. He did this by visiting universities almost alone, setting up card tables, offering to discuss and discuss all the issues that were not discussed or debated in these places created for this very purpose, creating conservative clubs on campuses across the United States, creating grassroots organizations, learning how to debate, despite the fact that he didn't go to college himself." The great work of many Russian missionaries over the past decades should not be underestimated. But I won't reveal a secret if I remind you that we still have a century— old chronic weakness - a craving for imitation of the West, which in its extremes turns into something opposite to preaching. Some Orthodox missionaries, motivated, of course, by the best intentions, having seen enough of Western modernist preachers, try to please everyone and, adapting to the tastes of young people, exchange vulgar jokes and playful "missionary tricks." The example and amazing successes of Charlie Kirk, who seemed to come from the same Western culture, but used completely different approaches, makes us think about what is truly effective in the mission. Charlie had the sense and tact to respect the intelligence of his young interlocutors, to talk to them seriously, on equal terms, without stooping to clowning. Charlie Kirk said what he believed in first. His sincere passion, integrity and conviction infected the youth, made them think. It was for this that he was loved and hated, and he did not leave anyone indifferent. The life and death of Charlie Kirk, his life's work, cannot but arouse the deepest respect. After all, his opposition to the retreat — what our Orthodox elder Father John (Krestyankin) called the "march of the destroyer" — despite the confessional difference, turned out to be surprisingly consonant for many of us.

Charlie Kirk. From the first person.

About Christ, the Bible, and the Christian Faith: "Jesus overcame death so that you could live". "How would you like to be remembered? " I want to be remembered for my steadfastness in faith. That's the most important thing. The most important thing is my faith". "The greatest minds in history have been mesmerized by Scripture… Isaac Newton wrote more about biblical prophecies than about physics. There is something intellectual about Scripture that really pushes your boundaries. And that, in my opinion, is what is so beautiful about our faith: it is accessible to everyone, but at the same time infinitely useful for research".
"The Bible is not relevant — it is ahead of time".

                          About marriage, family and abortion:
Family will change your life for the better, so get married and have children. You won't regret it".

                          Advice to young men:
"Find a woman, marry her, provide for her, have more children than you can afford". "Marriage is not just an important stage in life, it is a vocation. God did not say, “Wait until you feel ready." He said, “It's not good for a person to be alone.” Get married young. Be fruitful and multiply". "A husband should do his best not to force his wife to work". "We allow the killing of one and a half million babies a year under the pretext of protecting women's reproductive health. We allow babies to be taken away and thrown away every year, just saying that they are not human.… You use dehumanizing language, saying, "Oh, it's an embryo." — No, this is a child created in the image and likeness of God, deserving of protection. Mass murder of people should never be justified on the pretext that they are undesirable. That's how we got Auschwitz, that's how we got the greatest horror of the twentieth century."

About his vocation, freedom and conservatism:

If you eliminate me, others will rise up and speak louder." "We need to try to direct people to specific goals, to return to the Church, to faith, to marriage, to having children. It is this kind of conservatism that I represent and try to paint a picture of virtue in order to inspire people, not just to get angry.". "I'm much more interested in what God wants from me than what I want from God. God wants my life to be devoted to the struggle for the truth". On methods of conducting a discussion "Wisdom listens". "Taste your words before you spit them out". "If you believe in something, you need to have the courage to fight for those ideas, not run away from them or try to stifle them. "When conversations stop, when people become speechless, violence begins. Therefore, if you do something today, do it with passion, with conviction.

Protect your friends, stand up for your beliefs, and speak loudly, even if your voice is shaking. Your words make sense, your values have a purpose. Never forget about it."
