    Not even sure it would be mutually assured destruction anymore. I have a pretty high level source in military intel community that tells me an attempted Russian nuclear strike wouldn't be successful at all. I trust this person even though I don't have any details. They seem pretty darn sure though.

        They have 5000 ICBMs so even if 2/3rds fail that is still more than enough to do the job. Assuming they have enough competent people to program the targeting systems.

                    Yes, but getting to them may just be more challenging than you think.

                    WRT to Russia, Once you take out the 4 or 5 largest cities, what is really left? Not much of nothing....

                              What...like 4 cities over 1.5 million in population? 15 or 16 total over 1 million? 25% of your population there? More importantly, a huge portion of your financial power and industrial capacity is in just two places. Easy-peasey...push the button and the idiots are gone.
