No, definitely, exempting the japanese royal family from prosecution for crimes during the war, and granting immunity to members of Unit 731 was exemplary.

The emperor was still a god in 1945 so any attempt to prosecute him would have lead to amassive uprising in Japan. The emperor was off limits. I thought Nimitz planned the island hopping strategy for the Pacific?

I changed my mind about keeping MacArthur in largely in reconsidering how badly he allowed his command in the Philippines to be surprised after Pearl Harbor.

Monty wasn't anything special imho. Nimitz, otoh was exemplary. He did plan the island hoping strategy and was able to get it implemented over MacArthur's objections. Probably saved tens of thousands of lives in the end.

I would love for someone to defend LeClerc. I think MacAruthur did a lot of good, but also had some losses (to among others Yamash ita), and agree that Nimitz was the key general/admiral in the Pacific (Midway!).

If I understand correctly, the Americans had a very big of luck at Midway in that a flight of US aircraft arrived during a very short time that the Japanese carriers were without immediate aircover from Japanese fighters. if those American planes had arrived minutes earlier or minutes later the outcome of the battle may have been quite different.

I had anticipated the last two generals would be Manstein and Model. My prediction was obviously wrong as Model is already gone. I am now guessing the last two will be Manstein and Nimitz.
