Always was. There's this little thing called the "Oath of Enlistment" I took more than four decades ago. It starts with "I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic;" A joint session of Congress was meeting for the constitutionally mandated purpose of formally reporting and counting electoral votes for President and Vice President of the United States. A mob forcibly breached multiple police lines and the Capitol building, to interfere with that constitutionally mandated duty. I wouldn't have hesitated a millisecond to act as a spiritual counselor to those misguided souls.
