What makes Varespladib promising is that it blocks phospholipase-A2, a highly toxic protein that is present in 95% of all snake venoms and plays a direct role in life-threatening tissue destruction, catastrophic bleeding, paralysis and respiratory failure. Proponents say the small synthetic molecule has the potential to stop or reverse neurological damage, as well as restore normal blood clotting ability when administered immediately after envenoming.
my god I cant believe how much anti-venom costs. But this pill can be taken into the field and buy victims time to get to the hospital

Armed robbers' car stolen during Colorado heist, police say
Three gun-wielding thieves in Colorado allegedly robbed a cheque-cashing business, but, before they could escape, a fourth person stole their getaway car, police said. Commerce City police arrested two of three suspects on Saturday, describing the series of events as "an unexpected and ironic twist". Adding to the irony, their car may have "already been stolen", police wrote on Facebook. "We don't know." Police say an investigation is ongoing. On Saturday morning, three armed and masked people attempted to rob Hi Lo Check Cashing, the Commerce City Police Department said in a statement. They are believed to be under 18, according to local news, citing a spokesperson for the department. "As the trio was robbing the business…a fourth criminal stole their getaway vehicle," police said. Before the alleged thieves could flee on foot, "officers infiltrated the area and quickly chased" them down, police said. "We are relieved no one was injured," police said. The Shakespearean-like coincidence of robbers getting robbed at the scene was not lost upon Facebook users who commented on the Commerce City police's Facebook post. One woman asked if this was from Grand Theft Auto, with a laughing emoji. "What a plot twist," another user wrote, to which the police responded, "we can't make this stuff up". Car thefts have been on the rise in the US, up nearly 11% in 2022, according to the latest FBI data. Meanwhile, check cashing stores, which have hundreds of dollars of cash on hand, are frequent robbery targets.

Escaped Kangaroo Punches Canadian Cop
They've made it an honorary member of K9 unit
Police officers east of Toronto dealt with a situation Monday that their training probably never covered: an escaped kangaroo. The animal hopped over its handlers and escaped late last week during what was supposed to be a brief stop at the Oshawa Zoo en route to Quebec. Staff Sgt. Chris Boileau of the Durham Regional Police Service says the kangaroo was spotted in a rural area early Monday and an officer was punched in the face while recapturing it, the CBC reports. "It's something that he and his platoon mates will be remembering for the rest of their careers," he says.
Bouileau says the officers contacted the kangaroo's handlers and on their advice, "they actually just grabbed it by the tail." Videos of the kangaroo running down rural roads was shared on social media on Friday, the day after its escape, but search parties were unable to track it down amid bad weather over the weekend. Officials say the kangaroo is in good shape and will stay at the Oshawa Zoo until it is fully recovered. The officer struck by the kangaroo was not injured and the force apparently doesn't have any hard feelings: CityNews reports that it has been made an honorary member of the K9 unit.
Police released body camera footage of the kangaroo encounter. "The entire incident was not recorded —currently, officers are not required to activate their cameras for interactions with kangaroos as per the DRPS directive (currently under roo-view)," police said in a statement. "This camera recording of the kangaroo was triggered when she nudged one of the responding officers."

Traffic-blocking turkey beloved by some residents in Michigan town
By Ben Hooper

Dec. 6 (UPI) -- A wild turkey has taken to chasing cars and blocking traffic in a Michigan neighborhood -- and some locals love him for it.
The turkey, seen most commonly around an intersection in Kentwood, was dubbed "Gary Jr." by locals in honor of a turkey named Gary that previously frequented the area before his death in early 2022.
A Facebook group started by local woman Kayla Smith to document sightings of the original Gary saw a spike in activity after a dormant period when Gary Jr. arrived on the scene.
"It's something that brings some positive light to dark times," Cathy Kutschinski told WXMI-TV. "Turkeys roost in the trees at night, but once it's daylight, Gary can be anywhere."
She said Gary Jr. Is a worthy successor to his namesake.
"He's following in his footsteps," Kutschinski said. "Same antics of stopping traffic, chasing cars, blocking people from getting out of their driveways."
