I know that what is meant by that is that sunflowers soak up the radioactive strontium, caesium, etc, and then the sunflowers are disposed of safely, and not scattered back into the environment. However, it reads like you are saying sunflowers are a better radiation suit that lead-lining (by saying radiation, not radioactive material).

Macaques in Japan are doing well, our closest relative among the radiated species. Some people are starting to move back planting sunflowers to absorb soil radiation.
