It seems to be just a rumour that Kim Jong Un is Kim Jong Unwell.
It may be just speculation as to why he was not at public events. The news is that he might have heart problems or he may be well. He may he in hospital or at one of his palace.

My personal theory is that he's hiding in fear of the virus, but doesn't want to be seen as weak, so he and his propaganda folks made up the surgery bit themselves

Many of the high and mighty tried to isolate themselves on their country estates during the Black Death. The problem is the servants, minions and delivery people are going back and forth. All those minions bring the plague.
