I don't know anything about web development, but if there's any scripting or scraping that needs to be done, I can probably manage it.

Happy to hear that - this is a fairly powerful server and hopefully somewhat well-configured, so the site should feel appropriately responsive. So I'll whine here if I want some volunteer donations towards hosting costsSolver, WePlayCiv Co-Administrator

Aeson, one more thing - did you have some kind of script or setting that forwarded the old forumdisplay.php links to the correct forum? Such links are broken now, but I'm pretty sure they worked before the move.Solver, WePlayCiv Co-Administrator

There's plenty of files that are now inaccessible due to the various forum upgrades. But the files are mostly intact, it seems, I saw some really old ones in the data.Originally posted by Aeson View PostThere was a third party vb plugin that was used for uploads. It stored files in a maze of folders named 0-9. But no vb5 version. One of the tables in the database holds the relative paths and filenames. I always meant to write a script to retrieve the files when requested by the public url but never got around to it.

The 2014/09/03 backup is the newest one with working downloads. Newer Webarchive backups don't seem to work so presumably that was around the time where things started going wrong here at Poly?
I haven't tested all sections but I'm pretty sure all downloads are backed up and working in the Civ1, Colonization and Call to Power 1 & 2 sections. Most of the Civ2 downloads work however I think some failed. I definitely had mixed results with the Civ 3 downloads. Haven't tested Civ 4 or 5 or other games downloads but as they are bigger files I'd expect mixed results there too as presumably Webarchives backup algorithms have certain "don't automatically backup files past 'this' size unless manually ordered to" rules in them. You can navigate the download folders into each game and subcatagory to download mods, maps and graphics etc. All the fan tales/stories/memories appeared to be backed up under each game folder too.

Thank you to Ming for taking the responsibilities of ownership. I rest easy knowing Aployton is in the right hands.
Thank you to all those who have supported the day to day management of Apolyton over the years, keeping the hordes of Vietnamese carpet cleaners at bay and the various still active forums running as they should be.
Thank you to those who offered to help support the site financially.
My reign of terror is over ... I regret nothing! (Well, aside from taking on ownership ... and not banning more of you!)
You saved Apolyton and now you deserve to enter in the hall of fame of human benefactors

has anything changed on the security front during the move and update? For some reason last night when I posted a thread in the colonization forum it turned green and says "Unapproved" and has been stuck in that mode ever since. This has never happened to me before. It does have a bunch of offsite links in it due to all the different old 'Colonization like games' I talk about in the post so maybe that triggered it although I've done it before without issue. Either way presumably its stuck in some waiting area for admins to look at?

Aeson implemented some anti-spam measures awhile back (iirc) which do occasionally put some posts into a moderation queue. My guess is, yeah, it's all the links in this case. I've gone ahead and approved the thread.Click here if you're having trouble sleeping.

I now got the "Your post was flagged by the system as potential spam. It will not be visible until it has been approved by a moderator."" thing too
Just sayin' - most of my post are spam, so there's not much need for a specific marker here

I thought I saw links to the OT at the bottom of threads the other day. Today, they are gone again. Did someone make a change? It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple
