No, Ben once claimed to have Gay friends while still exposing his bigotry towards them, demonstrating that he had no concept of what friendship really is and was just using them as props for his argument. There is no other person I know that has real Gay friends and doesn't support legal gay marriage.

Given that I'm a convert I'm not sure why this is so difficult to believe. Yes, I have a friend who I went to college with that I lived with in the same dorm. We were friends before I became a Christian. He taught me how to play the piano and I taught him chemistry. He struggled with his chemistry coursework, and was very grateful when he passed.

Life isn't so cut and dried, rah. Yes, he knows I'm a Christian, he was there for those parts of my life when I converted. We have stayed in touch for a long time.

Yes, we are still friends. We disagree, but he understands where I am coming from and why. It's not like it happened overnight. He was there for the whole process, when I first became Christian. He's one of the few friends I do have that has been there for it. I have a lot of friends from before that I grew up with and a lot of friends from after, who've never known me outside. He's seen me in both.

In his eyes, he was failing and would have missed out on his degree - as he couldn't afford to fail and continue in school. He's very grateful that I offered to help him get past a roadblock. There was a requirement that all arts students take a science course in order to get their degree, and he figured Chemistry was his best bet. I wanted piano lessons and since I didn't charge AND I was able to help him successfully, that was a great deal for him.

Not everyone thinks the way you do, rah. I've known this guy going on 15 years now.

All the more reason to treat him with respect and realize that he deserves the same rights that you have.
Of course, you're the person that basically said he wouldn't attend his own child's wedding if they were gay.
To me, that make its simple. You can try to justify it all you want. You are not really this mans friend. He probably doesn't call you out on it because of all you've done for him.
That doesn't mean he's really ok with it. There is nothing worse than seeing a parent turn on their own children, but seeing a "FRIEND" do it is almost as bad.

No, he doesn't call me out on it because I was there when the people who were supposed to be there for him tossed him aside like worthless trash. Do you think I was the only person he asked? Do you think I was the only person in his life at that point? It opened his eyes when his so called 'community' that he thought he belonged to was nowhere to be found when he was struggling.

I never said it was out of ignorance. It's out of a false sense of superiority and it's just plain meanness. You believe you're entitled to a legal marriage but others aren't because they are different. That's the crappy part. We've all seen things. I don't use it as an excuse to discriminate against people.
