Yes, Trump isn't to be trusted.
However this goes especially for the promises he made.
Trump is a natural born populist ... I wouldn't trust one of the promises he made during his campaign ... in good as in bad

Ming is right that Trump is a wildcard.
(and IMHO deluded insofar that he seems to think to be able to lead the state like one of his companies ... perhqaps a confrontation with reality in office might change this)

And a total wild card. God only knows what he's going to do.

Which doesn't mean he wouldn't try, but it seems more probable to me that his first focus will be on avenging various petty grudges.
it could be very popular, though, with the right framing: 'we've all these great people who want to come to our country, and they go through the process, wait in line, do things in the right way, respect our laws; and then, on the other hand, there are lots of people who don't do any of that, who show us, who show you, the american people, no respect, and who think they're too good to wait in line like the others or even to pay taxes. they have to go back.'

i could see that going down well with a lot of people. plus a generally more restrictive approach to immigration is what his base wants.

              • It won't be popular when the economy crashes due to losing ten million plus workers doing jobs no one else wants to do, checkpoints requiring papers, agents going door to door searching houses for illegals, and the court system being backed up for a decade with deportation cases.

Because that's what deporting all the illegals requires.

i'm not sure that it does. if i had to design such a policy, i would probably start by cracking down on businesses known to employ illegal immigrants, i.e. random checks on businesses in sectors where illegal employment is rife, with harsh penalties for those caught. i would also pass laws, or put pressure on states to pass laws, that seriously restrict or make impossible access to government services for illegal immigrants. i would change the law to make deportation easy and instant, bypassing the courts and severely restricting or preferably removing any appeals. once the environment has become sufficiently hostile for illegal immigrants, many will leave of their accord and most will stop coming.

as for the economy, the impact is certainly open to question, and there is certain no shortage of arguments that can be made in support of such policies.

                    • That's nice. Except it doesn't stand a chance in hell with such a divided Congress. Depending on what happens in Louisiana, it could be 51-49 Congress. I am sure some Republicans won't even pass such harsh measures on immigrants.

Anything like that would have to be part of the budget and good luck!

Oh and undocumented immigrants contribute far more and deporting all of them would cause an economic crash.

                      • just to be clear, i'm an anarchist who supports the removal of borders, but i am simply saying how these things could be politically possible, and the way they could be framed. this is especially true if combined with reforms to the legal immigration system: 'we're helping those who play by the rules and cracking down on those who break them, etc.'

You mean businesses like the construction business (illegal contruction workers) or real estate (I guess housekeeping services like those employed by real estate companies which own skyscrapers often employ illegal immigrants).

I am sure this will have an interesting effect on Trumps Megacorporation (which seems to do a lot in those 2 fields of business)

Well.. Maybe we will get married and Trump sure as hell can't do anything about that.
