            hmmm

sounds more like checkers than chess

If I had to describe what defines this interpretation of the Civ concept in a single statement, I would focus on the stronger emphasis on exploiting resources for short-term benefits.

Are we allowed to stack more than one unit on a square? Feels like playing tiddlywinks.

We've heard similar claims before. Hint (right before V came out)
WE'll see. I want to hear from people that I know first. Hopefully the people here will serve that purpose

                    Own goal.

Because piling as many units as you can build into a single stack of doom clearly takes vastly more skill and acumen than actually deploying units tactically on a map.

Edit: my bad. I thought I was replying to Elok. Apologies all around.

? This is my first post in this thread.

Haven't played V, but if you really want tactical battle, why not have a tactical minimap? IIRC that was considered and discarded for II, but tactical battle superimposed on a strategic map is something of a head-scratcher for me. If there's a situation where Augustus is in Rome, Pericles is in Greece, and their archers are taking potshots at each other across the Adriatic, I have a hard time taking that seriously.

Moving to a tactical mini-map poses serious time issues in MP games. SODs and stack attack minimized those those delays in IV. Carpet of doom definitely slowed down V MP.

archers can shoot twice as far as gatling guns

Not being an MP guy, I didn't think of that, Rah. Really, if you enjoy it, more power to ya. I always thought of Civ as much more a big-picture game, and saw no need for tactical combat, any more than I saw a need for a "settle a blood feud between your retainers" minigame. My vision of the ideal Civ would be something utterly obsessive about verisimilitude. Probably it would be hell on multiplayer and hostile to beginners, so it won't be made. The series moves on, and I'm okay with being left behind.

Yep, having a twin brother lends itself to MP.
The best is when the entire family is playing.
But even with a twin we do also do many SP challenges/comparisons.
