  • No no. I only have one account here, but dinner recently took the fez title and adopted it as her own. Fine with me. She never backs herself up.

For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. I was making a bad Game of Thrones joke. I expected to be mistakenly accused of sexism, but I did not expect anyone would conclude that Oerdin is a girl.

Well, Fez is a very confused young man on a great many things.

I'm not confused about anything. I have myself in order.

                  • Anyways, Clinton has maintained her leads nationally by the same margin (though LATimes continues to be a weird outlier - looking into it the poll surprisingly oversamples republicans).

And a new Ohio poll has her 6% ahead in the state, after a similar one had her 5% ahead.

                    And then there is this:

This article is a big reason why Trump will most likely lose. He's appealing to people who lost their jobs of outmoded industries, and fails to see that younger voters have moved onto other sectors. North Carolina is a state he's likely to lose. While Romney did win it in 2012, the state is changing rapidly. This is what has been seen in Georgia too. Demographics are changing rapidly and the states are moving to Virginia like status. The Urban centers are heavily democratic and have seen a major uptick in the population, much like Fairfax County in Virginia. Also another reason why Clinton recently led by 9% in North Carolina in a recent poll, more than even Ohio or Florida.

He has angered many and including many of who are now seeing him as a threat to their livelihoods and jobs, while trying to appeal to a small set of voters who were affected yesteryear's job losses (for North Carolina that would be furniture manufacturing and textiles - OUTMODED INDUSTRIES!).

                    • The Times poll is of their readers and it makes sense that tge people who still buy actual newspapers skews older.

Tis is exactly the kind of attitude that cost the Democrats many millions of working class votes. If you and your family spent decades working in a skilled manufacturing industry, and then suddenly as a result of trade deals lost your jobs and were left living in a town with sky high unemployment and collapsed house prices, you'd likely be really unimpressed at the supposed party of the working class telling you that you worked in an OUTMODED INDUSTRY so basically tough ****.

A lot of perfectly decent people suffered (and continue to suffer) a lot of hardship as a result of things that were completely outside their control. If you don't want them to turn toward hate-mongers like Trump, then give them support and hope that you can actually improve their lives. Condescend toward them, and you'll lose them forever.

                        • Yup. Tough ****.

North Carolina is changing demographically and economically, and the democrats are targeting the new majority in the state. Simple as that. That is what get votes.

Not trying to bring back mostly automated industries.

                          • It's not about trying to bring back outdated industries, its about giving the people who were screwed over by national trade deals the support they need to get new jobs or training. Those people needed help, and instead they were largely abandoned. Then when they started voting for the other side (or most often just not bothering to vote at all) they got accused of being backwards racists.

If you treat people like that, then you don't deserve their vote. Hell you probably don't deserve to win either.

                            • Best to try to get the majority of voters, as I have said.

                              • If all that matters is winning, then you don't stand for anything that deserves to win.
