It is to hope (for the citizens of the UK) that the house of parliament will ignore the result
If Junkers hadn't been such an arrogant **** who refused any meaningful negotiations with Cameron then this wouldn't have happened. All he had to do was throne the man a bone so he could go home and say he accomplished something so vote stay but Junkers was so arrogant, so absolutist, so refusing to reform anything, that he practically handed the election to exit. Don't count on there beong any accountability at the European Commission though no matter how badly they **** things up because they truly are not accountable to the people in any way.

Yeah, but practically to ignore the result after this buildup would be unacceptable to the public and political suicide for those doing this.

              • Well, I thought I'd pop back into good old 'Poly to see how the Brexit success was being taken. This thread instantly brought back good memories of 'Poly, along with the many familiar names.

Regarding Britain proper, well, I didn't think they'd actually go through with it. But, it looks like they did. There's no ifs, ands or buts about it — this is a terrible blow to the European Union, but even more so to Great Britain itself. Is it possible GB itself could break up over this, with Northern Ireland wanting to rejoin Ireland, and Scotland once again seeking to leave?

Becoming smaller and more isolated in an increasingly inter-connected world is a risky move to make. It'll be interesting to see how things unravel in the coming months.

Oh, and I refuse to look at my 401(k) until at least September.

To be fair, the pound has dropped 10% so far.

                    • To be clear, I'm not happy with the result, but I had nothing to decide in there, so now we have to deal with it.

Aside from the practical implications (economy, security/foreign policy, whatnot) what moves me most though is the prospect of getting this errrm "style" of politics established across of europe and the us with such lovely ppl as Trump, Farage, Le Pen (I could cite Germans examples, but nobody knows them) making a nation-wide impact.

                          • I do believe Russia's government is celebrating today, though. A Europe that is *not* unified is probably in its best interests, particularly in the eastern part, nearest its borders.

                            • Maybe. But as long as NATO exists their celebrations will be short lived.

Let's see what our Eurocrats will put on the table. I am afraid some UK politicians don't yet fully understand that the UK has most to loose from all of this.
