Illinois is probably the worst state. It is so screwed up, I can't wait to retire and leave.
I would say it's because the democrats have ruled it for almost forever but that wouldn't be necessarily fair.
It's because the &%@#ing POLITICIANS have been running the state forever and are more concerned about their own power and could give 2 Sh*ts about the people in the state.

Where would you go in retirement? FL is quite notable for its corruption too.

That's a tougher question. In Illinois the corruption is so bad that the state is collapsing on itself. I don't think Florida is that bad yet.
Wherever you have politicians you're going to have some corruption.

Do not come to California, you would hate it here.

Funny how the two worst posters on poly chose the two worst states in the US?

Actually, it did not cause any stress. Before the over burden was removed things were at equalbrium was far as pressures were concerned. By removing the over burden they caused a classic unloading earthquake.

You can also have loading quakes where you put a lot of new weight onto a system thus changing the stresses and causing a quake. Dams do this not to infrequently.
Glad you agree that fracking is bad

Dams can be bad too. Also, they're been around for a lot longer than fracking, so a) they were built before people cared too much about the environment; b) most of the bad stuff about dams is well documented, as opposed to fracking.

I learned that dams are bad from Burt Reynolds in Deliverance.

But we have the Sunshine Law, and that means corruption is impossible! When all those local businessmen treat our entire city council to a catered dinner once a month, they're surely discussing sports.

I have found the novels by Carl Hiaasen quite enlightening (and quite hilarious) on those types of dinners.

The dams of the scale we are noting here have only come about since the turn of the last century.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.
