The accused is an Algerian "refugee" was living free of charge at a refugee center and getting both free meals and pocket money courtesy of the German taxpayer.

Refugees rarely rent suites at Claridges even if they aren't Muslims.

        • There is no war in Algeria so he isn't a refugee thus the quotation marks.

Thus why I said the first arrest for sexual assault in Cologne. Still, thank you for the info.

People flee countries that aren't at war as legitimate refugees for other reasons, e.g. persecution for one reason or another.

And Algeria as well as Morocco aren´t on the list of "safe countries" by the german government yet.
But there are plans to change this ASAP (making it easier to reject applications by people from those countries ... and immediately put them into deportation camps instead of the asylum seeker homes)

Of course the problem remains that, if people from those countries don´t have any identification papers, the embassies of those countries often are rather uncooperative in gathering replacement papers for them, effectively blocking the deportation/return to their countries of origin

                  • Take away all of their aid money and threaten those countries with sanctions unless they start taking back their people in a timely fashion. I understand Germany has already threatened Aid money to North African states and that is a good first step but they need to move extremely fast on this because come April the 2nd wave of migrants will start coming and it will be even larger than last year. Every 3rd worlders living in poverty now thinks they have a green light to the European welfare paradise (or so it seems to them).

As for not having papers, we both know that is because they throw away their own passports believing that not having them will delay deportation and allow them to suck up more benefits and commit more crimes.

                    • Thank god. Dinner right for the first time in history.

Yes the migrant waves will skyrocket again in April (I said it last summer) They have never stopped anyway.

                      About all the others wrong.

People don't risk their lives at see for an unemployment benefit, but because they are afraid they will lose their lives (or there is zero chance of anything)

Germany cutting "funds" won't affect anything.
The whole EU tried that when it indeed was possible with countries like hungary and poland to influence them away from authoritarin govs.
                      Failed.

So much more with algeria and marocco. They won't give a ****. Immigrants will bring back 10 fold the money Germany gives as humanitarian aid and will do it working

                      • Here one has to go back and think what it was like with a right wing gov.

There was a concious effort to put the blame for the poverty on immigrants.
Athens was full of unemployed immigrants going around.
In certain neighborhoods after the fall of the sun, you were a bit scared to walk out.
twice if you were a woman.

There were petty thefts, (there wasn't organized mass sexual violence, because I think there would be pogroms) but the fear was ever present.

Greece had become a vast warehouse of miserable souls.
                        Trapped here.

The same exact, was going on in Italy.

The left wing wins (both countries)

Greece and Italy got empty of immigrants.

WHole neighborhoods tranform themselves virtually overnight.

Things are hugely better. Almost no fear apart from few limited neighborhoods.

                        How they did it?

I think they just opened the borders. and they actually started caring, really caring for the neighborhoods and not just the rich ****s north of athens.

The propaganda of fear of bad immigrants to control the people has vanished. There is no such use.
                        Noone is afraid of anyone.

Noone though put the blame on that they were muslims. That's a particular effect revserved for northern europe and some few nazis there and oerdin.

Even then, they put the blame on them being unemployed very large in numbers very poor and uneducated.

(atlhough of course nazis here did put the blame on their religion. but they were a minority)

                        • And there are other differences between right and left wing.

I really, really couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the "socialist" leader laying wraths on ukranian kiev square with nazis watching him.
I was like what the ****? were am I? In what Union are we part of?

Or the minister of public order going to washington and being a polite little dog eager to learn from there how to deal with "terrorism" and such crap that their own policies (the right wing gov) were creating.

No. That was not my country.

                          Now it is.

And it's good that the whole corrupted corporate media establishment is against the left wing gov. That's their role. To control/check authority. Finally they exercise it.

IMO a bit of a prob that everything here gets lumped into "asylum". Normally this should be reserved for those persecuted for various reasons, while refugees from war torn countries (which does not mean persecuton per se) are handled separately, and "normal" immigrants separately again.

Refugee status means they should get help, but not automatically asylum, which are diff. things.

But infinite wisdom years ago decided that Germany does not need explicit new laws on immigration etc. so now its all "asylum".

                            • Everyone go to Germany.
They have 4,4% unemployment and are financially "superior" (I won't make a pun about former such ideas)

                              Now GO!

                              • Meanwhile some asylum seekers are planning to sue the german government,
due to the extreme delay in the procedures for granting the right to asylum (caused by the fact that the government agencies are severely understaffed for the number of asylum seekers).
Some of those asylum seekers already are waiting for a year or longer.

Others with families in their home countries, for the same reason are planning to voluntarily return to their home countries, despite the fact that they would have good chances to get their request for asylum granted (many of those are coming from syria or iraq).
(Seems like they (or at least some or them) planned to seek asylum, find a job and then let their families follow ... but due to the length of the procedure (and the prohibition for getting a job before the procedure for granting asylum has been finished), they had to cancel those plans)
