Well, I wouldn't be shocked, no, but it seems more likely to me that the next director will do what directors frequently do--treat the script as a polite suggestion--and drag it as far in the direction of his particular fancies as LucasFilm's creative-control lady will allow. Or rather, that he's doing so more or less as we speak, since the movie's going to come out in less than two years and post-production work's going to swallow about half of that. If the director is Michael Bay (hypothetically, pretty sure it isn't), there will be some jittery-cam landspeeder chases and closeups of Rey's pelvic region. But another director might go for hamfisted political metaphors, or gratuitous physical comedy, or long nihilistic soliloquys from Kylo Ren. One never knows.

TPM is boring as **** but to my recollection it doesn't have as much stuff that's just outright painful to watch as clones. It's a hard choice between those two. Granted I haven't seen any of the prequels in more than 10 years.

I really really liked the podracing video game for the n64. That was cool.

I have a little faith the next one isn't going to double down on the references. I was totally fine with this one until they brought in the new death star, which was really god damn stupid. Oh well. But having it be a sort of remake of ep4, and a slickly done one at that, reintroduces the series to its roots and brings the new characters out to have their own stories after giving them to us in a familiar setting.

I don't really see the hate for RoS. I thought that was a pretty good movie in the theatre, but not on par with ROJ.

Biggest issue was the plot but that wasn't the fault of RoS. It had too much ground to cover.

Yeah, this is rather original. Like we haven't seen this before.

Based on ...? This one was almost a shot for shot rehash of the original one. What exactly are you clinging to to give you hope we won't have to watch ESB Redux?

I'd say what they did with Ren was pretty risky; if they were going for a straight remake of 4, they would've done their damnedest to make the villain a looming menace like Vader (and likely wound up with someone generically evil a la Darth Maul). Instead they allowed a villain who's essentially a parody of what you're proposing: a guy who really really really wants to be Vader, but fails pathetically at every turn. And, as I said, bears more than a little resemblance to Anakin from the hated prequels.

Having the big superhero be a girl was also a little bit risky, considering the double standards that the general audience usually has for male and female heroes (i.e. usually not complaining if a male hero is incredibly knowledgable/powerful ... but immediately crying "Mary Sue" as soon as a female superhero is introduced that is similar capable as said male superhero)

Rey's already a better Jedi than Luke was after the first movie with even less training. But that's mostly due to JJ Abrams being ****ty. He did the same thing with Kirk in Star Trek.

It may also be something that could get explained by Reys Backstory.
For example if she received some prior training in Lukes Jedi academy before she got left on Jakku (and maybe made to forget her experiences at the academy by some kind of force induced amnesia)

Are we saying that Rey is the reincarnation of Darth Revan?

For me the benchmark for spacecraft movement, at the time of the first Star Wars (now) episode 4, was 2001: A Space Odyssey. So I was underwhelmed by the realism of space battles (based on WW2 Battle of Britain dogfights, as you all know). But the story lines were good fast moving adventures with reasonably likeable characters: Luke, Han Solo, R2-D2, C-P3O and Chewbacca. Princess Leia and Obi Wan Kenobi. And villains galore.

So I enjoyed the excitement of the first 3 with the children. (A bit like with Jurassic Park). I also liked some of the future concepts unveiled such as the 3d chess hologram. Meanwhile Star Trek sequels and Battlestar Galactica appeared.

Then after a long gap, came the Star War prequels (1-3). I caught 2 of them on subscription Movie channels and was not impressed

So for me episodes 1 and 2 sequels are equally bad with probably Attack of the Clones the worst.

I rate Alien (and to a lesser extent its sequels) as significant in this respect.

There were spin off 2 Ewok movies which were independent of the rest of the Star Wars movies:
                              Caravan of Courage
                              and
                              Ewoks: Battle for Endor

The best one can do is, to cover them with a shroud of silence ... similar to the Star Wars Christmas Special

Darth Binks > * > Ewoks > C3PO. Therefore RotJ is the worst.
