  • True enough... It was bad enough that priests who were figures of trust in the community abused children, but it was even worse when the church covered it up.
Real stand up guys... Great examples for their people to follow...

    • But to be fair, we shouldn't judge all Catholics harshly since at least 90% of them didn't approve or condone those actions.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

        Slander... I don't think so.
If you're so concerned about those things why are you defending a religion that teaches it's followers to do those things? The crusades began it the ME, expanded into Asia and Europe, and then into Western Africa btw. You should learn some History before you speak.

You should learn about the history of the religion you are a member of and defend.

Christianity didn't lead to any of that. Christianity doesn't teach any of that. Muslims started the aggression. Would you rather the Muslims had conquered the whole ofEurope? That's what it sounds like.

It is also interesting to note that emperor Constantine II (the son and successor of Constantine the great, who became known as first christian emperor) introduced the death penalty for homosexual couples ... all in accordance with the bible (Leviticus 20:13))

Yeah... The christians were innocent bystanders... learn your history.

And again, what about the Institution of the Catholic Church covering up child abuse, allowing offenders to move around and continue doing it. And these were the Church Leaders... Defend that...

No. The Muslims were extremely aggressive. Stop making them out to be victims. You are defending bloodthirsty warmongers.

I don't have to. People sin. You don't have to teach people to sin, like the Koran does.

                    ...

                    They surely were ...
and then, in the centuries after Karl Martell managed to stop the muslim incursions, the chrstians themselves became bloodthirsty warmongers, who took part in wars of conquest on the order of their highest priest and gods representative on earth.
(and slew the unbelievers in Jerusalem, till they waded to the ankles in blood (cannot blame them, if their priests had read to them Deuteronomy 17 prior to the attack on the city))

I assume you are aware that the Muslims had been attacking Christendom for over 4 centuries, slaughtering and enslaving women and children, and taxing Christians to death before a Pope ever even mentioned the word crusade.

                          • There were two big incursions of "mooslims" to europe.

One was the moors in the iberian peninsula. (which btw after the reconquista, the "christians" had so much spare soldiers wreaking havoc in their own lands that they sent them to the new world to pillage and burn there)

the other were the ottomans. while the byzantine empire was in a long process of decomposition long before, the crusades gave it the final hit and opened up wide the way for the "mooslims" to advance to vienna.

Also under the ottoman empire the farmers, notoriously were better off (at least financially, the taxes were low because the ottomans couldn't enforce their dominion in plenty of places - unlike the nation states that ensued. but still struggle )

There have been both ... muslim conquests as well as christian conquests before the first crusade ...
after Karl Martells victory over the muslim armies at Tours, actually the Reconquista began, the reconquest of the spanish peninsula from muslim reign (well, actually it may have begun a little bit earlier, but Karl Martells victory was an important stepstone ... weakening the muslim leadership and armies).
Meanwhile in the east (the byzantine empire) the muslim conquests went on (and actually were the reason for the first crusade ... the request for help by the byzantine empire ... unfortunately the christian armies in their bloodthirst went further than requested by the byzantine emperor and also attacked the muslim allies of the byzantine empire ... not only the turkmens against which the help was requested)
(actually one later crusade finally was among the reasons why the byzantine empire finally fell to the turks ... when the greediness of the christian crusader armies knew no end and they conquered constantinople instead of traveling further to the intended target of the crusade ... weakened the byzantine so that Sultan Suleiman few centuries later had an easy time conquering all the rest ... all in all the crusades rather were a burden for the byzantine empire, than a help)

Also ... taxing christians ... how evil ... not
Imposing additional taxes for other faiths was more civilized than slaughtering people of other faiths within the own country, as happened in the medieval christian europe (I agree btw. that enslaving christians was another matter ... but those AFAIK were done by muslim pirates ... not by the muslim states themselves)
