I like the implication that you bring us your problems because we're not your friends.

Bah! In my head I was like, I should say irl friends. But then I was like, typing on my phone is annoying and my break is almost over and I should sometimes try not overqualifying everything I say.

With regards to this specific situation only, I would say that overqualifying is not too bad, provided you can be reasonably sure the results will be read only by friends. And by friends I mean people who wish you well in general, in both on and offline contexts. "People" here refers to human beings in general, albeit in deference to your opinions I should include superintelligent AI and possibly freakishly intelligent apes, dolphins, etc.

She wants to pair up with me for some observation projects we're doing this semester because I'm the only other responsible adult in the class.

                Lori,

I am 53, in all things in life that i most regret (I have had multiple FU's), not having children is #1.

                Rethink it seriously.
We're sorry, the voices in my head are not available at this time. Please try back again soon.

I really don't want to think about whether I should or should not have children. It'll just make me upset right now. What I want is a way to stop thinking about my ex. Like, there are good odds I'm going to go to sleep tonight and have another weird dream where I'm sneaking around in the attic of her house (that I used to live in).

That's the beauty of being a man. Tony Randall fathered 2 children after he turned 75. Anthony Quinn also fathered children quite late in life (70+).

Weird idea: write? Try writing about a character in your situation and letting your imagination take over. See what your in-story doppelganger does. I have no idea about what will happen, but it might give you insights, or help your subconscious have a good satisfying chew on the idea so it stops sending you weird dreams.

It's not a bad suggestion, but she's a writer, too, which makes it hard for me to think about writing without thinking about her.
