Wait, it turns out it was actually organized in Jordan in 1999. It was involved in the assassination of an American diplomat in 2002, then moved to Iraq before the war. It was originally known as Jamarat al_Tawhid wal-Jihad, changed its name to Al Qaeda in Iraq in 2004, then became Islamic State of Iraq in 2006 and finally Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in 2014.
And when in that timeline did they become a formidable force? And at what point were the powerful positions occupied by Iraqi Ba'athists who were formerly senior military displaced by the overthrow of Hussein?

Hope Island. Let's make it happen.

Russia is sending planes packed with their marines passing through greek airspace to syria.

Washington aparrently told us not to let them in but the responce was something along the lines: "come kiss our beautiful round delapidated asses".
I like it, primarily for its poetic potency.

Normally I would point out that it's 'depilated' that you meant to say, but given how ****ed your economy is, maybe your asses are a bit delapidated these days...

              Carry on!

I seem to be out of thanks.

Also, interesting development. Russia the only country prepared to put 'boots on the ground' against ISIS?

                  Do you have a link?

Harumph. I can see that you have only thanked 11 times. And made 195 posts.

Eleven thanks dished out is simply not nice enough.

                    You need to be "nicer".

PS I thanked Bereta for you because you are not being nice enough.

Why would russia send their planes through greek airspace to syria? Isn´t it shorter to send them acrosse the black sea (and then over turkey)?

                        Maybe Turkey said no?

Which would also provide a particularly good reason why Greece said yes...

True ... Greece - Turkish relationships IIRC never have been all too warm, since the thing with the byzantine empire

They aren't likely to do much other than prop up Russia's little pet dictator Asad.
