  • I myself would consider it an ignorant prejudice. Clearly there are many deaf people w ho are not morons.
When the average deaf person reads at a third grade level, that's a huge problem to them achieving success in the world. Right now that's not being addressed but covered up with platitudes. I'd rather have someone going off at the reality than the platitudes at this point. I'd never even heard the statistics myself until college.

Are we doing people a favor by patting them in the back all the while consigning them to special ed and saying, 'everyone is a winner" or in actually digging into **** and fixing things?

Right now, the average deaf person is a moron - because society isn't teaching them. Because society tells them that they have to learn to sign before speaking. That reading has nothing to do with speech, and that deaf people are uncle toms if they speak rather than sign.

Many deaf people contribute to this - some through not knowing better, others wanting to form their own little 'empire' that they can call their own. Some prefer the ghetto.

As for me, where does that leave me? I can't go back, I can only go forward.

So Ben doubles down on racism and prejudice. For any who might wonder if rah's sig took him out of context, there you have it.

I think people who are assaulted have a valid beef, I don't play favorites. IF they get beaten up by a white dude, I'd feel the same.

          Not sure why that's racist.

Would you say someone who's not white being beaten up by a white dude was racist for saying that he didn't like white folks?

Hrm? I couldn't find the quote. I found other quotes from years ago, but not that one.

If getting beaten up is the reason he doesn't like white folks, yes.

Ooh, appeal to authority and consensus. Fantastic argument. I suppose if Racism is a concept that relies on consensus and authority rather than objectivity that would make sense.

Is there a reason he could give for his anger towards white folks that would make you think his anger was justified?

                    • No Ben. There is no good reason to hate people who have never done anything to you to warrant it.

The racist part is applying the feelings to the race of the attacker rather than applying those feelings to the attacker.

Not an argument; just an observation. It does not change the objective fact of your racism.

Just a simple answer to your specific question.

So, asked and answered. I will not engage you further.

Ben, is it fair to blame and dislike blacks, women, or Christians because a black, woman, or Christian wronged you?

if the person who wronged you was white, is it fair to dislike white people? Not that you would of course, you're white...

I think that many people judge the group because of bad experiences. How many times have we seen that with Christians - examples of bad Christians affecting how people treat Christians in general. It's a fact of life, really. If the experience is particularly bad, it's going to stick with folks for a long time. Assault is not a small thing.

if the person who wronged you was white, is it fair to dislike white people? Not that you would of course, you're white...
Well, it's not racism then. But if I were black, yeah I could sure see it. And many people do say that and believe this and nobody suggests that it's due to racism. Really it's considered racist the action that was done to them. That the person disrespected them *because* they were black.

At least that's my experience. YMMV.

I'm not suggesting that someone act on their feelings either. Again - it's not fair to the other person. Feelings are one thing, actions another.

What about the assault in the first place? What if the victim feels like they were targeted by a criminal *because* of their racial differences? Does that change things?
