By a definition of "professing to follow Jewish teachings", yes, you would be Jewish.

That you choose Jew/Christian rather than Catholic/Protestant (or even Calvinist/Lutheran shows pretty clearly how wrong you are about the issue. The differences between Mormons and Catholics are minute in comparison to the differences between Jews and Catholics. Especially if you read what Jesus actually taught.

    • i don't see why mormons don't celebrate their prophet as having founded a new religion instead of trying to claim to be some wacky sect of christianity. after all, many people claim to be divinely inspired, but few manage to have their bizarre rantings elevated to the status of a religion.

Hint: the doctrine is about the conception of MARY, not Jesus.
I'm not saying it is immaculate conception. I quite clearly said there are differences. Immaculate conception helps explain why Jesus was born without sin in Catholicism. Which is part of what I was trying to express about Mormon's view on Jesus (without sin).

          That's what I said!

Technically speaking, I'm also Muslim because there is significant overlap with the big three.

Mormons believe their Church was founded by Christ. It'd be extremely weird to make that claim and then claim you aren't Christian.

So why are you arguing that Mormons are not by dictionary definition Christian?

Aeson: "Immaculate Conception" refers to the idea that, in order to give birth to Christ, Mary had to be somehow free from the taint of the Fall or something. It makes a great deal of sense to Catholic theologians and none whatever to others, who lack their elaborate scholastic superstructure. I doubt very much whether Mormons believe it, as Joseph Smith lived during a time when Catholics were only slightly more popular than blacks in America. And I'm not sure if it was even invented yet when Smith croaked.
All doctrine is cooked up. The Bible is all you need.

Any definitions of "Christian" are just as silly ... unless it's Christ's definition and he actually exists as advertised. Though he never seemed to care about calling anyone "Christian" or not ... so likely even then it's silly.
