Is it not reasonable to expect those without mental illness to stay out of the road?

Kid now implies that both rah and I have mental illness because we walk in the road at times.

If the street isn't busy, why not? Quite a few people in my little town do it. It seems reasonable that if a neighborhood doesn't have a heavily trafficked street, why not? Especially if there's somebody they're trying to avoid on the sidewalk.

What I find funny about the whole thing is that it really doesn't matter if Brown instigated it or not, he should not have been shot. The man was outside of the Missouri legal distance to open fire that an officer "in fear for his life" is allowed to draw down.

It doesn't matter why he was in the road, why he was approached by Wilson. None of the extra circumstances matter.

What matters is that yet another human being was shot dead for no good reason.

Wilson displayed unprofessional approach techniques that shouldn't have been used in the first place. He was either in his vehicle or not. There isn't an easy way for Brown to reach for his sidearm if he was still in his vehicle like he purports, yet also slams the door on him and runs? The story Wilson offers doesn't add up to me at all.

Now, had Brown crossed that distance line and not listened to Wilson's instructions? Then he would have had a legal right to shoot, but not until then.

What is really interesting to me is how the victims are demonized.

A man is illegally selling cigarettes one off on the street... he's had previous record, etc.

A boy is shot in a playground... his family has a history of law trouble.

A mother calls the police to assist with her mental ill son... and they shoot him.

etc. etc.

Let's look at the situation only and stop trying to drag extenuating circumstances in to justify these acts after the fact.

The guy robbed a store and attacked a ****ing cop, dude. At what point does he stop being victim and start being culprit? It would be better if he were still alive but for god's sake, any idiot could see this kind of result coming from a mile away. I'm not talking about the other cases, either. I'm just talking about Brown.

Principle 1: Police should avoid using deadly force when possible.
Principle 2: People shouldn't punch other people, particularly when those people have guns. Herp derp.

You do suffer from cognitive dissonance. He didn't live in a small town in MN. He lived in the St Louis Metro. He was a thug. You don't seem to get that. There was traffic on the street, and they were blocking it. A cop drove up. He had to tell them to get out of the road. They refused. You are in fact suffering from mental illness, just not the kind that I was talking about.

If he was pulling his gun he shouldn't have backed up and tried to get out of his car at the same time, but that doesn't explain why Brown was reaching into the car and took off running only to turn and run back at the cop. The cop was justified after two attacks, what more can we expect?

Yes. Apparently white police are not allowed to hunt black men anymore. Is there a Kickstart campaign for the white patriot who shot this negro in the back 5 times after he tried to run from a traffic stop? (OK, I'll admit I'm being a tad sarcastic. But if a citizen hadn't caught the whole thing on cell phone video, the cop probably would have gotten away with it.)

i saw the video; it's pretty shocking.

it reminds of a recent case here in brazil. the police went into a slum and started shooting at a group of young men, killing one. the usual story was told, that the group had been armed, that there has been an exchange of fire and that one 'criminal' has been killed in a shoot out with the police. however, a video then emerged showing that the police's version was a complete fabrication - the young men had been playing football and started to run when the police opened fire; not one of them was armed. this kind of thing happens all the time, almost every day and most of the time there's nothing to contradict the police's version of events because witnesses are either dead or too scared to come forward. it seems that american police adopt the same tactics: shoot first, ask questions later, lie about it.
