Boris Nemtsov, a leading Russian opposition politician and ex-deputy PM, is shot dead in Moscow ahead of a march against the war in Ukraine.
A leading Russian opposition politician, former Deputy Prime Minister Boris Nemtsov, has been shot dead in Moscow, Russian officials say.
An unidentified attacker in a car shot Mr. Nemtsov four times in the back as he crossed a bridge in view of the Kremlin, police say.
He died hours after appealing for support for a march on Sunday in Moscow against the war in Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has condemned the murder, the Kremlin says.
President Putin has assumed "personal control" of the investigation into the killing, said his spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
It "bears the hallmarks of a contract killing," said Mr. Peskov.
In a recent interview, Mr. Nemtsov had said he feared Mr. Putin would have him killed because of his opposition to the war in Ukraine...There's nothing wrong with the dream, my friend, the problem lies with the dreamer.

If John Boehner got shot walking down Pennsylvania Avenue, I would be highly suspicious and wouldn't rule out the possibility of Obama ordering a hit but I would give the benefit of the doubt pending an investigation. But given Alexander Litvinenko, Anna Politkavskaya, Mikhail Khordokovsky, rigged elections, press restrictions, etc etc etc the much more reasonable assumption is that this guy was killed by the government.
Just an observation, even if Putin isn't responsible (unlikely), in the United States and other western countries, people like that would likely receive police protection. I think Boehner gets secret service protection because he's in the line of succession, and I know presidential candidates receive it. It says something about Russia that he didn't.
But we knew Russia is a dictatorship already, I guess. If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio
