if the "unjust" taxes have been repealed, why are people still evading taxes?
where are the new "just" taxes?
where is the reallocation of public employees/services?
Any one of those things would have been enough to show the Troika that real progress was being made.

    • Can you end austerity if other countries refuse to give you any money?

only by exiting the euro and suffering (a bit more) for 6 months

Also it hasn't costed them anything yet. It's just guarantees.
They might make a few bucks too if the whole debt is repaid (but it won't)

Makes sense, but is Syriza admitting they might have to leave the euro?

It is an example, genius. There are a lot of projects just like those which when added up could be a big step forward especially for certain regional economies.

Who says you can't? Hell, those are part of the needed deregulations we have been talking about for a dozen pages. Most of these are just deliberate restraints on trade designed to restrict supply of service providers and thus drive up costs for consumers. Yes, doctors should be licensed but why do barbers need to be licensed? Do you really need a license to cut hair and can't the market sort that out? "Hey, that guy doesn't do a good job cutting hair so I will go some where else."

There are dozens of such licensing requirements which could be eliminated thus opening opportunities for regular people.

All of these are being finalized (or trying to get finalized) on a political level negotiation (since syriza kicked out the technocrats) and will be presented on a multi-layered bill in the parliement after negotiations are completed. My guess around June.
That will be the real test time for the present gov...

Doesn't help that the IMF and the eurozone are fighting between themselves like little children btw

Not very loudly since 70% of the population wants in.
But it has stated that between a further social disaster and a failed honest compromise, it might choose to address the people and ask them directly.

On some cases because there simply isn't the political will to do so.

On others because these regulations indeed serve the wider social good.

                  • I didn't know barbers needed to have a license. So they don't cut your ear off?
That hasn't stopped many new hairsalons from all over the world to open though.

                      June may be too late

                          • when I played bowling I sometimes won.
The thing was that while others rushed and threw the ball fast, they most of the time missed.
the ball I threw went nervebreaking slowly but in the end all the pins dropped

                            • Crappy pins then. A slow ball should get deflected from dropping the first couple and leave several standing.

                              • you have to psychologically prep the pins for dropping. it's science
