  • Paiktis, no one wants to hire lazy Greeks at the current minimum wage, that is a big part of why your unemployment rate is so high (another part is the decidedly antibusiness regulatory environment), so raising the minimum wage will just result in more unemployed Greeks.

There are your fantasies and then there is the real world.

    • There is lots of money to kick start economies and grow out of debt.
Not my fault when the exact opposite is chosen simply because it serves one country or two.
Anti-austerity parties are growing everywhere where austerity has hit and they see the problem, loud and clear.
As a pioneer country, I welcome the comrades

Stop saying lazy you dufus, you undermine yourself and your own arguments!

No. The crisis is being used as a vehicle for wealth transfer to corprorations.

And the businesses have closed down due to relentless overtaxation, not due to wage obligations.

That's where you say, gee Paiktis, you're right, austerity really sucks!

        • Paiktis, I don't care how long Greeks sit there in the office surfing the internet or making coffee. If they aren't producing anything of value then it doesn't matter how long they work. Get your productivity up and start producing more value per hour then we can stop calling Greeks lazy but until then...

          • untill then humbug

The people who use the lazy word are by definition clueless. Thankfully not many want to have their foot in their mouth all the time.

            • Oh, ok, clueless. I guess everyone in the economy is clueless and Greece secretly is an economic tiger with companies just rushing in to hire Greek workers because they just make some much money for their employers.

Yes, there is a problem with over taxation and over regulation, which is why everyone cheats on their taxes and ignores the regulations except for companies which can't. You public sector is very large as a percentage of the total economy and needs to shrink while the government needs to sell those SOEs to pay down debt. That will decrease your expenditures and allow for tax rates to go down (assuming cheating Greeks actually start to pay their taxes instead of dodge them as they always do). Next you need tax reform so people can't dodge their taxes with real teeth to ruin tax cheats so the penalty for cheating is so harsh no one does it. Lastly, stop killing business with regulation. Greece is the worst in the EU on this front and has only gotten worse not better. Do that and maybe people might feel it is worth hiring Greek workers. Until then you will get more of the same and that is the hard economic truth.

              • Ceasar's wife not only needs to be honest, she needs to appear honest as well.

Like highways. Rights to built are sold 5 times more expensive than the average EU contract.
Then tolls are made up where the people pay this 5 times increase every time they travel.

That's high way thievery! No wonder people are pissed.

Syriza wins. Couple of days later the guy with the most businesses with the state is arrested for tax avoidance of up to 2 bil.
He pays 1.8 bill bail and gets out waiting for trial.

If these are the tax avoidances you refer to I agree.

That doesn't mean that austerity policy is not the main culrpit for all the european sovereign debt crisis and consiquent downfall.

                • I have no illusion that the previous political personel was rotten. But it was rotten within a european context.
It's silly to expect the new political class to receive any tangible support from that framework anyway.
Like in all things, everything is being won with fights. Noone gives anything for free.

                  • I mean I wanted to emmigrate when everyone was talking about the stockmarket and investment opportunities and **** like that.
It seemed so superficial, so empty. Only chasing money. Dumb.
I'm glad this era is behind. I'm positive of good things to come

                      1. You are indeed clueless.

                      2. Once again, you sound like just another GOP idiot.

                      3. Tax cuts and deregulation... Seriously?

Your twisting and turning is worthy of any contortionist. When did you admit to yourself you were wrong?

You have to understand that in the case of Greece, taxes and regulations have been used to institutionalize corruption. It is the corruption that must be eliminated. Thus, removing those taxes and regulations would be the most straightforward way to remove the corruption they were used to facilitate. The real answer is to stop corruption and promote fairness in competition. Paiktis talks about how Syriza is doing things, but nothing has actually changed.
