The wishes of the Greek people are in conflict with the wishes of the German people. You support Tsipras because Syria represents the Greek people, yet you attribute Merkel's position to supporting the rich elite. You are the one being ridiculous. In fact the voters in most of Northern Europe no longer want to "lend" any more money to Greece. Your position is like saying its only a democracy when they vote they way I want them to.

That article was dated Jan. 10, 2014. Things are not as rosy in Iceland as that article would have you believe. Of the 3 banks created out of the failures of the old banks, 2 are majority foreign owned. Their unwillingness to lend and take risk has had a serious dampening effect on Iceland's growth. The homeowners who bought before the crash are still underwater (or just getting out from being underwater). Their loans were indexed to inflation and they now owe more than they originally borrowed.

Both GDP/capita PPP and unemployment seem to be better in Iceland than in Ireland. It is normal for both countries to be poorer after the shocks they experienced but as long as they have no unemployment and are growing things are OK.

Indebtness doesn't mater much.

Unemployment was always higher in Ireland (even during the good times), but their latest trend is better.
PPS in Ireland is higher since about 2000 and is still higher.

During the good times, Ireland was about 5% unemployment while Iceland was about 3%. After the crisis hit, Iceland soared to 7% while Ireland went to 15%, and today Iceland is at 4.5% while Ireland went down to 10% actually .

So far, tax collections are 1B euros short. Where is the enforcement? Why is it so hard? Right now, Greece may run out of money in April. If tax receipts were as expected, they would have much more run rate.

The worst part of this whole mess is that it's becoming hard to tell the difference between posted USD and Euro exchange rates in shop windows. The other day I was walking past a money-changer and just about made an unplanned visit to the bank when seeing what I thought was a very good USD exchange rate. Luckily I caught myself and double checked ... but even when realizing the truth that just lead to a deflated feeling. Damn Eurocommies

First, people who are happy to live in a country with no social welfare, extreme poverty and immense wealth divergence should not speak. They are the devil and they don't belong in a civilized discourse.
For the others who see that this is an absurd POV and reject the fact that you can live cosily when a fellow human being of yours is dying of hunger. those are allowed to speak.
