  • Germany would have acted much different over the last 10 or 20 years if they were more worried about their own voters than larger European concerns .

    • Your assertion is mostly untrue. In any case, politicians worry about their voters when the support of those voters can no longer be taken for granted.

      • Good news. Greece came up with 584M Euros on Monday. Now they only need to come up with another 350M Euros by Friday.

        • I doubt Greece will make the promised reforms this time just like they didn't make the promised reforms the last half dozen times. They know every time a deadline comes the EU will give them more and thus they never actually have to reform anything.

          • What you are talking about will be seen a few months down the line. I was talking about short term cash requirements. In any case:

We have Varoufakis giving Germans the finger and now we have a financial reporter calling him and Tsipras clowns. The entertainment value is off the charts.

            • And now they have passed a new law massively expanding welfare without any off setting cuts. They don't have the money and just expect the EU to give it to them. He has made zero progress on the agreement made last month. Will the EU finally grow some balls? It doesn't seem likely but we can hope.

It looks like this might finally be the straw which broke the camel's back. We can hope. The ECB says they are now planning for a 95% loss on Greek debts and officials are going on TV and publicly wondering if the Greek government is trying to get kicked out of the Euro.

The ECB has repeatedly told the Greeks not to take any unilateral action prior to delivering a concrete plan to the ECB as required by last month's agreement but the Greek government decided to flip them the big and do it anyway without even knowing how they will pay for it. Maybe this will finally be enough.

The poor are the ones who will get hit hardest when they get kicked out because the government is incompetent, lies, and there is hyper inflation.

                            • i think you meant to say that the poor have been hit hardest by 6 years of economic collapse and harsh austerity.
