The local picture is that life goes on, but everyone is, for now, more aware of their surroundings and everyone is being cautious. Possibly verging on paranoid. My office is in La Defense, the business district on the edge of Paris. They've locked all doors except one entry point, and are inspecting all bags on entry. Many of the local shops have done the same where they are of a reasonable size - mostly restaurateurs. The Quatre Temps mall only allows one door per entrance to be open. Yet.... The RER train station next door with thousands passing through - you can walk in and get a train without as much as a security guard looking at you. Also, those places that are inspecting bags as you go in don't look equipped to handle a guy with a gun or explosive vest. I walked in with just a heavy coat - no bag - and wasn't stopped (but then I again, I am white). So all this - Deterrent not so much - feels like it's just to make people feel like their wellbeing is being considered when it really isn't any safer.

The number of armed police and soldiers walking around with rifles is visibly up. There are also a lot of (empty) police cars outside prime targets. Deterrent rather than anything else in that instance as you can't see the actual police.
One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.

Two Greek businessmen jailed by Danish court over ‘joke’ that led to Copenhagen airport closure

      Friday, November 20, 2015

A Danish court has jailed two Greek businessmen for 13 days for making remarks that sparked the brief evacuation of one of Copenhagen’s international airport main terminals.

The Copenhagen City Court said the men, who cannot be named under a court order, were suspected of causing “groundless alarm.”

      They pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutor Erik Hjelm said a female employee at the check-in counter heard them saying “there is a bomb in this bag” and one said the other was wanted for the Paris attacks.

The hour-long evacuation of the Nordic hub’s Terminal 3 on Wednesday caused the delay of 58 flights, the airport said. Terminal 3 was evacuated at around 12pm after police were notified of the conversation.

The terminal was reopened several hours later.

“They said that they were only joking with each other,” police spokesman Steen Hansen told AFP.

“Apparently, they are friends, though one was going to Paris and the other was flying to Frankfurt (Germany),” he said.

The incident came just hours after Danish police raised the country’s threat level by one notch to the second-highest level, citing the elevated risk of a terrorist attack after last week’s Paris attacks.

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

      • On the positive side there are now 2 more greeks on the world, who surely will think twice whether it is a good idea to make jokes like these in security sensitive areas

        • eh?

I searched a bit, and it seems one wanted to make a joke to the attendant there when giving their suitcases to the check in.

He says: Hey there's a bomb in that suitcase
She said: Sir, please don't joke with these things

His friend said: ha! he's the one they are looking for the paris bombings"

          Girl: sirs, stop now!

          Then she pressed the button

          • The most funny comment I heard about it was

_They are busting our balls all the time about the greeks who went abroad and excelled in everything
_Yeah, good thing we now find out about the baffoon ones too

Probably the dumbasses didn't know about the shootings for the mohament drawings in denmark and though it was one big joke and denmark was risk free from the whole thing .

OR: she looked at them funny

IIRC the college in California where the last mass shooting in the US occurred permitted concealed carry. What was the result? Nada. Oh, and some years back didn't we have an incident at an army base? Thousands of armed men on the base and no bystanders intervened.

Amusingly, soldiers aren't allowed to be armed on base.

What thousands? The only people armed are a few MP's, the duties in the armories (if they're open), and the officers of the day. You're talking a few dozen at the most and they're well dispersed (bases are massive).
