And I've never been to a strip club either.
You're not missing much. Not sure why stag parties go there.

A friend of mine once went to a strip club, he told me it was one of the saddest things he'd ever seen.

That just means he's never been to one of the really high end ones.
          There is a BIG difference.
I've been to both and now refuse to go to the lower end ones because yes, they are quite sad.

i've never paid for a prostitute. i've never needed to nor had the slightest interest.

the boys and i arranged a stripper for a friend's stag do once. she didn't turn up, so one of the boys called the local brothel and arranged for two of the girls to come and do the show. neither were very attractive and the whole thing was pretty funny, they stripped down and pranced around for a bit, teasing the groom before handcuffing him, taking down his trousers and whipping his arse a few times (it sounds like quite a lot, but he actually got off pretty lightly). my buddy and i sat outside chatting to them afterwards, they were nice enough girls, but a bit too eager to sell extra services.

I went to a strip club for a friend's bachelor party, but the strippers evidently had a lap dance quota or something because they were extremely aggressive

I also went to a strip club in Windsor Canada with my brother and his frat buddies on Dec 30 1999 - we were in Detroit for the New Year's Eve Metallica concert. This was hilarious because the frat buddies were so embarrassed by the naked women that they devoted their attention to the football game on the TV.

Usually it's the girls getting annoyed because we're paying more attention to the ball game then their bodies.

Somebody finally noticed that or the reference in the thread title. Only 25 posts. Not too bad.

                          Strippers and poles, yes.
                          Prostitutes and poles, ???.

I'm glad you didn't say classy. I've heard people describe strip clubs as "classy" and I insist that's a contradiction in terms.
