A lot of these probably due to the rights of citizens (in most US states) to arm bears ehm bear arms.
No surprise if cops get more nervous when everyone can legally keep a firearm in his car, house, pocket, whatever ... and may (illegally) use it in order to defend himself from getting controlled by police (or getting arested, or ngetting beaten up or tazed, or whatever the cps were planning to do).
And if people are nervous they are likely to commit mistakes

I had a veritable arsenal of realistic toy guns when I was a kid - which is exactly what I equate gun ownership with - childishness!

Why the **** would a grown person want a gun!? Unless they were actively using it to hunt, for example? Because they haven't grown up? Small c*ck syndrome?

So, basically if you're a kid with a fake gun, you run the risk of being shot dead - especially if you're black...

Not to mention the clear paranoia of the public that must assume that even a kid with a fake gun must assume it's real and fear for their lives!

I have a question: can kids in the US play with fake guns in public places, or is it against the law? Was the kid actually breaking the law?

Yes, again, because open carry doesn't mean you can point guns at people. There are actually laws against specifically doing that.

Short version:
A black man is injued in a car accient.
In order to get help he knocks at the door of the nearest house. The housewive answers to the knocking at the door, sees that it is a black man she doesn´t know and immediately calls the police (instead of asking him what he wants) ... suspecting hoim to be a buirglar or something similar.
A patrol car arrives at the scene and an officer first tazes and then shoots the black man (with 12 shots ... of which 10 hit ... just to be sure he is really dead)

When I grew up we bought toy guns that looked real and we removed anything that didn't look real, like orange tips. I vaguely remember doing that myself. We had toy machine guns, geez... the only guns we bought that didn't look real were those brightly colored squirt guns. I think all these wars we're fighting makes us scared of each other, some black teen was killed in a store for carrying a pellet gun he was buying. Blacks are paying the biggest price, they're public enemy #1

My neighbour (in Oregon) would chase her boyfriend around with a shotgun.

In the years we were neighbours, she never even had police race up... they would come around all relaxed like.

It sounds like it was a pretty routine event and they had seen it all before a dozen times. This chick must have been amazing in bed or something because most sane guys would ditch the crazy shotgun chick in a heart beat.

Combine popular gun ownership with an addiction to SWAT teams and no-knock warrants and you get people getting killed whilst trying to defend themselves against what they believe are burglars. Maybe even combined with the police raiding the wrong house to begin with.
