You mean twelve year olds don't always make the best decisions? Kill them all then.

Better yet, let's blame the parents. "If you hadn't bought your son a toy gun then the police wouldn't have shot him." (Or maybe the kid shoplifted the toy gun??? Yet another thug meets his just reward)

Maybe people should have to show ID before they can buy a toy gun. "Sorry, you're too black to purchase this - trust me, this is for kids' well-being."

From the emergency call (according to one of the OPs links):
It's probably fake, but you know what, he's scaring the (expletive) out of (inaudible). ... He's sitting on the swing right now, but he keeps pulling it in and out of his pants and pointing it at people.
So the caller thinks that it may be fake ... and the kid has taken the gun out pointed it at people and put it back in multiple times, without shooting.
This would definitely deserve that the officer thinks more than 2 seconds before shooting.

Unless the officer who police station who received the call and informed the patrol was some idiot who totally twisted the contents of nthe emergency call (for example by telling the patrol officer that there is a dangerous kid with a pistol in the park who may shoot people any moment ... totally leaving out the doubts of the caller with regards to the pistol being real)

(nonetheless the kid was an idiot and probably should deserve a honorary mention in the Darwin Awards )

The sad part is that he probably saw this (people carry guns or whatnot) around him all the time and he just mimiced it.
There's a crazy woman in my neighborhood who goes around with a fake plastic cell phone pretending she's taking important phonecalls all the time and talking with a loud voice. (then goes by the church to get food)

Personally, the kid going out of his way to remove the orange tips that go on the ends of these guns is the clincher for me. "you know what would be cooler? Making my fake gun look even more real and scaring the **** out of everyone."

I have a real simple rule that's served me well. I don't point a gun at people I have no intention of killing. It works extremely well for me.

I will say I had a gun pointed at me once.

If that ever happened here, the next day the company that makes these fake guns would be closed and the selling of them forbiden (not that there is one chance in a million for a kid to have a fake gun but also for the police to mistake it for real)

So you're saying the cop here was justified after 2 seconds. I just want it on record for later.

My neighbour (in Oregon) would chase her boyfriend around with a shotgun.

In the years we were neighbours, she never even had police race up... they would come around all relaxed like.

I suppose you need to be careful in america (I'm not trolling).
A friend of mine went on a car ride from one end of the country to the other. SOmewhere on a highway in L.A. a police patrol stopped her and asked for her driving license. She's very nervous (this is her usual way) and probably fumbled the papers or what not and the policeman actually took out a gun and pointed it at her!!!!!! She was shocked!!
(then again I have other acquintances who visited with nothing but the best impressions - they weren't driving though)

Very rarely and it usually involves hardcore criminals going mental.

The most recent event was an albanian hardcore criminal high on drugs taking his ak-47 and opening fire in a club two days ago. Luckily noone died but 14 people were wounded. Police apprehended him today.

Just want to say whether or not the police shoot you for it, that's not a good idea.

In that case, they probably should have not been so relaxed. You never point a weapon at something you aren't willing to kill after all.
