    • I work weekends in security at Plano Presbyterian about 10 miles from the mothership Dallas Presbyterian. All equipped with Ebola fashionware. Infectious Isolation is alive and well. So far, nothing. No good zombie attacks. I'm just hoping they're correct and it isn't, and doesn't go, airborne. I guess I could lock myself in an isolation room in advance.

          • BK, why no update on the fact that Nigeria is now officially ebola clear? I read this thread for important ebola news and you have failed to deliver!

I'm not sure the news would have been well received here due to the fact that one of the ways they accomplished that is due to the imposition of a travel ban on other West African countries ravaged by the outbreak.

              • Authors of a paper published October 9 in Eurosurveillance attribute Nigeria's success in "avoiding a far worse scenario" to its "quick and forceful" response. The authors point to three key elements in the country's attack:

Fast and thorough tracing of all potential contacts
Ongoing monitoring of all of these contacts
Rapid isolation of potentially infectious contacts
What we can learn from the boot leather, organization and quick response times that stopped Ebola from spreading in this African nation

                  Experts oppose travel ban.

Ultimately, health specialists said, a ban would do more harm than good because it would isolate impoverished nations that are barely able to cope with the outbreak, and possibly cut them off from the international aid workers who provide critical help to contain the disease.

What's your point? I already know you have a low IQ.

I'm not seeing any credit being given to Nigeria's alleged (because you have zero credibility due to idiocy) travel ban being responsible for anything.

Nigeria declared a national public health emergency and Mr Sawyer later died of the disease, followed by seven Nigerians.

These included Dr Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, who diagnosed Mr Sawyer and is credited with helping to contain the outbreak at its source.

Dr Adadevoh's son, Bankole Cardoso, told the BBC that because Mr Sawyer had been so quickly diagnosed, Nigeria was able to trace all those who could possibly have contracted the disease from him.

"That was probably the difference between us and our West African neighbours," he said.

John Vertefeuille, from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), said that Nigeria had taken the right steps to contain the outbreak.

"Nigeria acted quickly and early and on a large scale," he told AFP news agency.
The World Health Organization declares Nigeria officially free of Ebola - hailing it a "spectacular success story" - after six weeks with no new cases.

Keeping borders open. Nigeria has not closed its borders to travelers from Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia, saying the move would be counterproductive. “Closing borders tends to reinforce panic and the notion of helplessness,” Shuaib said. “When you close the legal points of entry, then you potentially drive people to use illegal passages, thus compounding the problem.” Shuaib said that if public health strategies are implemented, outbreaks can be controlled, and that closing borders would only stifle commercial activities in the countries whose economies are already struggling due to Ebola.

Because it's not really news. It's olds. Travel bans and border controls work. We've known that Nigeria is clear for about a month. Vinson, the last to contract was out and about on the 14th, so we've had 6 days clear. We were 14 days clear when Nina tested positive on the 12th, which was rather unfortunate.
