  • Jeremiah 11:

    Then the Lord said to me, “There is a conspiracy among the people of Judah and those who live in Jerusalem. They have returned to the sins of their ancestors, who refused to listen to my words. They have followed other gods to serve them. Both Israel and Judah have broken the covenant I made with their ancestors. Therefore this is what the Lord says: ]‘I will bring on them a disaster they cannot escape. Although they cry out to me, I will not listen to them. The towns of Judah and the people of Jerusalem will go and cry out to the gods to whom they burn incense, but they will not help them at all when disaster strikes. You, Judah, have as many gods as you have towns; and the altars you have set up to burn incense to that shameful god Baal are as many as the streets of Jerusalem.’
    And what's the response of Israel?

    Therefore this is what the Lord says about the people of Anathoth who are threatening to kill you, saying, “Do not prophesy in the name of the Lord or you will die by our hands”— 22 therefore this is what the Lord Almighty says: “I will punish them. Their young men will die by the sword, their sons and daughters by famine. Not even a remnant will be left to them, because I will bring disaster on the people of Anathoth in the year of their punishment.”
    Just a thought, telling a prophet not to prophesy is probably not going to be looked on favorably.

    • Jeremiah 19:

      This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Listen! I am going to bring a disaster on this place that will make the ears of everyone who hears of it tingle. For they have forsaken me and made this a place of foreign gods; they have burned incense in it to gods that neither they nor their ancestors nor the kings of Judah ever knew, and they have filled this place with the blood of the innocent. They have built the high places of Baal to burn their children in the fire as offerings to Baal—something I did not command or mention, nor did it enter my mind. So beware, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when people will no longer call this place Topheth or the Valley of Ben Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter.
      Once again, we see Israel engaged in child sacrifice.

      In this place I will ruin the plans of Judah and Jerusalem. I will make them fall by the sword before their enemies, at the hands of those who want to kill them, and I will give their carcasses as food to the birds and the wild animals. I will devastate this city and make it an object of horror and scorn; all who pass by will be appalled and will scoff because of all its wounds. I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and daughters, and they will eat one another’s flesh because their enemies will press the siege so hard against them to destroy them.
      Which is what did happen.

      I think I'm noticing a theme here - Child Sacrifice is something that God hates.

      • Lamentations"

        The Lord has done what he planned;
        he has fulfilled his word,
        which he decreed long ago.
        He has overthrown you without pity,
        he has let the enemy gloat over you,
        he has exalted the horn of your foes.

        The hearts of the people
        cry out to the Lord.
        You walls of Daughter Zion,
        let your tears flow like a river
        day and night;
        give yourself no relief,
        your eyes no rest.

        Arise, cry out in the night,
        as the watches of the night begin;
        pour out your heart like water
        in the presence of the Lord.
        Lift up your hands to him
        for the lives of your children,
        who faint from hunger
        at every street corner.

        “Look, Lord, and consider:
        Whom have you ever treated like this?
        Should women eat their offspring,
        the children they have cared for?
        Should priest and prophet be killed
        in the sanctuary of the Lord?

        “Young and old lie together
        in the dust of the streets;
        my young men and young women
        have fallen by the sword.
        You have slain them in the day of your anger;
        you have slaughtered them without pity.

        “As you summon to a feast day,
        so you summoned against me terrors on every side.
        In the day of the Lord’s anger
        no one escaped or survived;
        those I cared for and reared
        my enemy has destroyed.”
        And why?

        Jerusalem has sinned greatly
        and so has become unclean.

        All who honored her despise her,
        for they have all seen her naked;
        she herself groans
        and turns away.

        Her filthiness clung to her skirts;
        she did not consider her future.
        Her fall was astounding;
        there was none to comfort her.
        “Look, Lord, on my affliction,
        for the enemy has triumphed.”
        This is just yet another reference to the disaster of the siege which captured Jerusalem.

        • “And they came to the place which God had told him of and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood. And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.” It matters not that god let Abraham get out of murdering Isaac.
          To put a knife up to your son’s throat is child abuse.
          When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!”

          “Here I am,” he replied.

          “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.”
          He did not take the knife to the throat. He did bind his son and explicitly warned Abraham not to do anything. If God condoned child abuse, he would have permitted Abraham to go through with it. He did not.

          • 1 Kings 3

            “And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king. And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other." This test was of course given to see who the real mother of the child was. Christians view this king as a wise man. I look upon his suggestion with far more revulsion then I give accredit to Susan Smith.
            Now two prostitutes came to the king and stood before him. One of them said, “Pardon me, my lord. This woman and I live in the same house, and I had a baby while she was there with me. The third day after my child was born, this woman also had a baby. We were alone; there was no one in the house but the two of us.

            “During the night this woman’s son died because she lay on him. So she got up in the middle of the night and took my son from my side while I your servant was asleep. She put him by her breast and put her dead son by my breast. The next morning, I got up to nurse my son—and he was dead! But when I looked at him closely in the morning light, I saw that it wasn’t the son I had borne.”

            The other woman said, “No! The living one is my son; the dead one is yours.”

            But the first one insisted, “No! The dead one is yours; the living one is mine.” And so they argued before the king.

            The king said, “This one says, ‘My son is alive and your son is dead,’ while that one says, ‘No! Your son is dead and mine is alive.’”

            Then the king said, “Bring me a sword.” So they brought a sword for the king.He then gave an order: “Cut the living child in two and give half to one and half to the other.”

            The woman whose son was alive was deeply moved out of love for her son and said to the king, “Please, my lord, give her the living baby! Don’t kill him!

            But the other said, “Neither I nor you shall have him. Cut him in two!”

            Then the king gave his ruling: “Give the living baby to the first woman. Do not kill him; she is his mother.
            There was zero chance of the woman who's child was alive sacrificing her living child. Would you want a child in the custody of the woman willing to cut a child in two out of spite?

            • God commands repeatedly that you beat your children.
              Proverbs 13

              Whoever spares the rod hates their children,
              but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them.
              Proverbs 10:17

              Whoever heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray
              Hebrews 12

              In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says,

              “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline,
              and do not lose heart when he rebukes you,
              because the Lord disciplines the one he loves,
              and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.

              Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father? If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all. Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live! They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. 11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
              What are we to make of Hebrews that makes the same argument? Correction is not a bad thing, it is a crucial thing.

              • Matthew 19:29

                When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?”

                Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

                Peter answered him, “We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?”

                Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.
                Same chapter as this part:

                Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?”

                “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

                “Why then,” they asked, “did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?”

                Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.”

                The disciples said to him, “If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry.”
                So how to interpret this? God is saying that marriage is an indissoluble bond between husband and wife. But your wife cannot come first. Christ must be first. Paul goes on to state that if a believer converts and is married to an unbeliever, they are not to divorce the unbeliever. The unbeliever may choose to leave and the husband or wife must accept this.

                This is what Jesus is talking about. For some, conversion means that. Losing a family, friends, and your life as you've known it. We must be prepared to stay with Christ even when those closest to us abandon us.

                • “Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which god has established. The authorities that exist have been established by god. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what god has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he shall commend you. For he is god’s servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is god’s servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. There fore it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience.
                  Submission to the authorities is not the same thing as obedience to them. One can submit and not obey their decrees. You are correct, that a Christian is to submit to the legitimate authority of the state, which includes taxation. A Christian is to defy a law forcing them to participate in Abortion, by whatever legal means they can.

                  For example, with a law requiring abortion funding, a Christian is not wrong to work against the repeal of the law, nor is a Christian wrong to subsist on a low income so as not to incur participation in a grave evil. Should a Christian be commanded to sacrifice to idols, bake a cake for a gay wedding, a Christian is permitted to say no, and reject the authority of the state to command participation. If the state is so tyrannous as to shut the business down, then the Christian should do just that, remember Christ says that anyone who gives these things up for Him will find them returned to him 10-fold.

                  I believe that is all.

                  In short - God despises child sacrifice, will willingly punish anyone involved in it and nations when they choose to indulge in it. Why? Children are his creation, his work and his name is represented by them. Abortion runs afoul of the exact same thing for the exact same reason.

                  Even just using your own citations only, Sava, I have shown that God preaches the exact opposite you claim.
