The Altera Centauri collection has been brought up to date by Darsnan. It comprises every decent scenario he's been able to find anywhere on the web, going back over 20 years.

It being a wiki doesn't make it a free for all, BK.
So change it to something that's more your liking. In the time it took for you to write a post about it you could have rewritten it to reflect what you want it to be.

Yeah. Especially since SETI might be a waste of time/effort, but it's definitely not pseudoscientific.
What evidence is there for the existence of aliens? If someone built a radio telescope to receive messages from God, what would you think of the project? Psuedo scientific claptrap is charitable.

I'm weighing the time it takes for me to write this post versus the time it will take for me to edit out all your future contributions to the wiki. Just be reasonable, BK. The alternative is that it will be more than just cats getting in the way of you editing the wiki.

If you don't like it, edit it. That's how wikis work.
Banning someone when you disagree with <1 percent of their contributions suggests to me as an astonishingly poor decision.
There's a lot of work to do and I'm willing to put the time in to help out Apolyton by actually writing articles. Read back what you wrote and ask yourself if this is how you think this would improve the present state of the Wiki. What are other people going to think when they see this thread?
Are they going to be more or less inclined to contribute?

What evidence is there for the existence of aliens?
What evidence is there of the existence of the Higgs Boson?
Tell me, is the sun a particularly remarkable star? Is the composition of the Earth particularly convoluted? Is the use of electromagnetic waves for information transmission something that is only viable on Earth?
If someone built a radio telescope to receive messages from God, what would you think of the project?
If they thought that god was aliens from another planet, then I'd think is pretty reasonable. If they thought that god was a nonmaterial being capable of appearing directly to humans with no history of using radio waves, pretty dumb.

BK, the point of a wiki is that it's collaborative. Yes, it can be an adversarial back and forth editing war, but I don't think Aeson wants that. So instead, everyone should just follow some basic guidelines. For example, opinions unrelated to Civ2 as a game don't belong in the Civ2 part of the wiki. Because I don't want to have to change every single edit you make that includes your non-game-related opinion, I'm asking you nicely instead. Please be reasonable and keep your contributions to the wiki game-specific.

What history is there of aliens using radio waves to communicate? We're assuming:
1, Aliens exist.
2, Aliens are reachable by present technology
3, Aliens are listening and
4, Aliens are material, and corporeal entities. and
5, Aliens, even if we contacted them would respond in a manner in which we could understand.
None of these 5 presuppositions have any observational evidence in their favor. All 5 are presuppositions made by SETI.

Yes, it can be an adversarial back and forth editing war
Lorizael:
You misunderstand. I am attempting to create stubs with the intention of other people expanding them as time goes on. I am not going to edit war, all I am trying to do is create a page which other people can improve. That's it.
I expect people to rip it apart mercilessly. That's why your contributions and my contributions together will be much better than mine alone.
Please be reasonable and keep your contributions to the wiki game-specific.
What I'm doing is providing some historical context along with the game information. Someone looking it up should get some information as to what it is all about. Civ2 is a game with a lot of history in it, and it's a huge part of the draw. There was quite a bit of thought put into the choices that they made, and we should have this information put in there too. Who is Copernicus? with my updates, someone could go through and have a better understanding of who he was and why he was important.

Of course, but they're not easily proven wrong either. As I said, it might be a waste of effort/resources, but it's definitely not pseudoscience.
At some point the question becomes, 'How would the endeavor be proven to be fruitless?'. Einstein permitted folks to discard the whole concept of a lumineferous aether, something that had been regarded as scientific fact.
The problem with SETI is that we simply don't know nearly enough about the problem to reach scientific conclusions. We don't even know yet whether or not life on other planets might be carbon based. You have to have a certain amount of reliable information in order to make tests about things, and we aren't even at that point yet. SETI, is just sitting by the phone and waiting for ET to call us, when we don't know if ET even exists.
Anyways, I'm not really sure what the objection is to the reference to the Human Genome Project? The wonder seems to anticipate the project quite well, and it is looking like targeted gene therapies will provide many of the same benefits to people. I think it's to the credit of Brian Reynolds that the wonder bears up so well now.

Also, Darwin never wrote anything, he just traveled around.
Ok. Like I said, it's just a first draft. If there's stuff missing, add it in.

Geeze, when I first saw this out there I was excited and thinking about what I could contribute, but after reading this thread it has become something to avoid like the plague.
Well done.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple
