I understand 5 is controversial. But at this point, most of the complaining comes from people who either haven't played it at all, or only did for a short time at release and judge the game based on that.

This is fair. I only played it on release, not since the DLC came out. Has it really improved that hugely? The flaws felt quite fundamental.

Civ2 is a great game, but I could never go back to it. There's so much that feels fundamental to Civ now (borders, culture, strategic and luxury resources) that it would be very empty to me.

Civ4 is the best, though, because it includes a feature I got put into The List.

I just found the game boring and tedious... it took forever to build anything... and everything was so "plain"... wonders had been nerfed... and even the specials (with the exception of strategic resources) didn't do much. I liked the hex's a LOT. But the single unit per hex limit had more minuses than pluses... I've seen it handled better in other games.

If you are seriously butthurt over 1UPT, you'll never like Civ 5.

But if you are open to a different experience WRT military units, I highly recommend trying it now.

The problem with Civ 5 vanilla is that there just wasn't enough to do. With both expansions, there is much more to do, especially with the culture victory overhaul.

Brave New World definitely put Civ V over the top. The only thing that IV has over it now is the plethora of mods and scenarios.

The only problem with that approach Mobs is that if you like to play MP as much as I do, everyone else gets so far ahead of you in knowledge learning the game before you do. Eventually you catch up, but You've taken a lot of bruising in games until you do.

And I do find it hilarious to see a very civilized on-topic discussion in the OT forum in a thread saying we don't see the need for a special forum for civilized discussions.
And I think Lancer is doing the drama queen act to drum up support for his private forum. So we can all now add marketing on the list of skills that Lancer has absolutely no clue about.

Learn the best by playing the best. Not Sava. In olden times (Civ2), I eventually went from OMG-King-is-too-hard to yawn-Deity-is-too-easy to dueling Ming to a draw. Of course we played using rah Rules, and everyone knows only complete morons and rookies alike use those.
