  • TV's Craig Fergusons LLS ending in December

Best of Luck for his future Endeavours
Craig Ferguson has announced that he's leaving his late-night talk show later this year. It raises the question: Did he ever really have one, by our usual definitions?

As has become the recent custom over at CBS, when Craig Ferguson decided to announce his departure from The Late Late Show on Monday, he had a self-deprecating joke ready.

"Thanks everybody! That was quite convincing!" he said, as the audience groaned at news he would leave the network's 12:35 a.m. show in December. "I'll go and do something else. Probably, I'm thinking, carpentry."

Some fans might assume Ferguson is leaving because CBS hired someone else to take the top job in the network's late night universe, handing Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert the hosting gig on the 11:35 p.m. Late Show when host David Letterman announced his retirement weeks ago.

Loved his show. He should have got the job over Colbert.

My opinion: he's a funny guy but the show was awkward.

I have always liked Craig Ferguson and his zany show, but not many people really watch a "Late Late" show anyways. Maybe he can trade with Colbert . I know he's doing some dumbass sounding "Celebrity Name Game" show this Fall.

I don't know of anyone in my life who makes any of those late shows into appointment television.

I have never known of any such person.

A lot easier to attract millions when there's only 3 or 4 real channels.

But yes, I will always consider him the best. But then I"m old.

Probably because it was before cable / internet. "Let's see - watch some celebrities talking about their latest movie / album / whatever on Leno, or watch porn. Decisions, decisions."

Nah. Two things: Carson left in...92? Cable was well on it's way by that time. Also, late night didn't really have an audience until Carson. He was singularly responsible for viewership swelling in those years.

I thought that Ed Sullivan was the late-night pioneer - was he on at prime time or something?
