It would take the sudden introduction of a very massive object or the application of huge rockets over a very long period of time. The energy requirement would be 2x MV^2 where M is the mass of the planet and V is the orbital velocity of the planet.
“It is no use trying to 'see through' first principles. If you see through everything, then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To 'see through' all things is the same as not to see.”

Then Satan obviously created the hole, so the Holy Ghost is responsible for jam doughnuts and Haggai for chocolate sprinkles.

Ben, you're in fine form with the snark today. That's the second genuinely clever retort I've seen in minutes.

Not switching stars, but set up in a binary system. I remember this trilogy by Aldiss as quite good.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

                    Circumbinary planets have been found.

Sorry. Beer is proof that God exists and that he wishes us to be happy.

There can't be more than one proof?

You need to look at the circumbinary literature (for which the term circumbinary is very useful), but the short answer is no. The mechanics practically guarantee an ejection or collision before even a passing star-switching orbit, let alone a stable one.

The Astronomy Magazine article I mentioned went into it, but the online version is very truncated.

                                The article in question.

The first challenge to overcome is forming a planet in the first place.
